No surprise really. Gruden has always been a terrible at player evaluation.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Jon did his best work when he was coaching for Al. He needs a strong personality in the building to keep his ego in check and Al obviously took no shit from anyone.

Al actually gave Jon a fair amount of latitude with roster decisions but never allowed him to run roughshod.

Onward and upward. This is organization is now on the rise.

Yes. Basically Mark moved into his father's dilapidated house and has demonstrated zero pride of ownership. I hope he finally has enough distractions in his life to finally stay the f[raiders_icon]ck out of everyone's way.

I was at Buffalo Wild Wings with friends and when Murray went 1st I knew we could get Allen (I knew Bosa and Williams would go 2 and 3). When they announce the pick the place just went dead quiet. Never even heard of the guy.

The article says they were trying to trade back and pick Ferrel later in the 1st round, but that they panicked last minute and rushed the pick.

The thing is that the first time that Gruden coach the raiders…he also had Rich Gannon come on board as the QB; and Gannon had a lot of say on the offense and the team…

ps you cannot separate money and football "its a business first " you need money to hire scouts/coaches, you need money to sign free agents and draft picks, everything about the game of football works because of having money

I'd argue the league did us a favor. Screwed gruden sure but it got us rid of Gruden and Carr. Without that I'm not sure Brady agrees to become part owner and we sign gruden to a new 10 year extension after his breakout 8-9 season

Utter failure there. But the argument that we could spend in free agency because of the move to Vegas is a fallacy. Teams have to spend on roster move up to the cap ceiling and we did that when we were in Oakland. And lower market teams are subsidized by the larger market team so spending on free agents was never a problem. The problem was who we were spending money on.

I was one of the fans that was never on board with his hiring given all that power. I followed his career in Tampa Bay and was fully aware that he was absolutely terrible at assessing talent. This article shouldn't really be overly surprising for fans as it was clear that Mayock was a puppet GM and that Gruden's never had a vision or plan. We talk a lot about his drafting which is amongst the worst ever but free agency was also a total disaster as he just threw money around for veteran players without putting a lot of thought into them being good fits. As bad as all these signings are I look at the Drake signing as an example of a totally unnecessary and random luxury signing for a 3rd down back like a toy he just had to have despite the acquisition cost. While there's no doubt to me that the NFL purposely leaked the emails to get Gruden out of the NFL, I also acknowledge that they did Mark Davis and Raiders fans a huge service here as this organization was never going to move forward under Gruden.
