NFLPA report card - Facilities + coaches graded

Unread post by chucker »

The NFL won the legal battle to prevent the NFLPA from releasing results of their report cards to the public but, predictably, they've been successfully leaked. The Raiders got A's in almost everything. They got a B in travel - a category where a B wasn't bad. They got bad grades across the board for coaching, with OC receiving an F. Ownership got an A. Interestingly, the Steelers with the media-favorite Rooneys got one of the worst ownership grades.

Someone has compiled all the grades into a google sheet:

Jim Harbaugh surprisingly pretty low. Great coach but he's known to wear out his welcome. I figure he's got two more seasons to take them over the hump or he will h wearing very thin

The Bengals getting an F- for food/dining when no one else gets less than a D is the most Mike Brown thing ever.

I hadn't noticed that - I wouldn't have thought there was anything lower than the basic F

Given that the results are an average of all the responses of the players who filled out the survey, it's stunning to receive an F...... it can't take a lot of mediocre responses to skew it up to a D.

In that case, I'm not buying players' assessments. Too many discrepancies. And how many players actually voted, and which players?

The Family rating is why no one deserves good things.

Raiders treats the fam right, A. Can't win anymore.

Pitt's treat'm like shit, F. Most consistent winning franchise.

Other than wins being paramount, being high on family is something for ownership to be proud of.

When they published the actual reports, I believe they had over 95% participation so most of the players are involved. That would include the practice squad players so around 2200 players give or take? Curious, why would that invalidate the results? Who better to ask than the actual guys who work inside the walls? These are aggregate results so I do think it gives us a pretty decent snapshot of what is going on with each team.

Understood, but lemme ask you a question; do you agree with the grades given to our OC as well as doofus?

Davis is a players owner and is very approachable. Kelly was crap on a cracker. I don't know the exact criteria used, none of us know the wording of the ratings criteria, but I can see both grades being reasonably accurate. The surprising grades were more how utterly bad the Browns are and Jim Harbaugh's grade to me.

I don't know that there's a need for us to agree with the grades from our perspective because they aren't fan grades. They are from the perspective of a player - not yours. A player can have a very different perspective from a fan. It's not a fan survey, and doesn't try to be a fan survey. The NFLPA does it to try to identify issues and motivate teams to improve things for the benefit of players. I'd say I agree with the grades simply because I believe they reflect how the players feel.

There are times when the player grades would actually be the opposite of the grades we would give as fans. I'm sure that a player who gets an unwarranted and overpaid contract extension would give the GM a high grade, while fans would grade that GM low. (Andre James and Reggie, I'm looking at you)

But only Raider players know about how approachable Mark is and the Raider players are not the only ones who voted. So logically, how would the players of the other 31 know to vote that resulted in Mark getting such a good grade, and our OC getting such a bad grade?

And when we first learned that Kelly got the OC job, most of us were giddy with praise for the move. But as time goes on, I'm thinking more and more that the problem wasn't as much with Kelly but instead with Pete.

But of course, we'll probably never know for sure what went on behind the scenes.

Yes, but agreeing and disagreeing with news about the Raiders is exactly much of what we do here every day.

Definitely. I guess I feel like we've made our feelings known on these issues in so many other spots and I was just looking at what the players think. Personally I think our OC was awful - although it's very possible it was Carroll's meddling that contributed to that - I'm not inside the room so I'm just guessing on Carroll's meddling. Players historically don't like Chip Kelly (even when the offense is good) so when you stack that with the horrible performance of the offense, he's gonna get a terrible grade.
