This is it..Last North American tour..they’re like 80 now. Not sure if the whole original band will be there but Rodger and Pete will be there..and that’s pretty much all you need at this point. When you get to that age the only way to see a band when they stop touring is a residency..like the Eagles at the Sphere, who we saw last year the day before MNF vs the Falcons. One of the ZZ Top Members played halftime.

Billy Idol opens for the Who in Vegas so there’s a little bonus, Nice when a seasoned band opens ..got to see Bush, not open but, play a set before Shinedown a few months back at Golden one in Sac. The lead singer of Bush, Gavin Rossdale, walked into the stands during mid song and walked right down our row. Cool stuff.

I also saw Rodger Waters of Pink Floyd at the Sprint Center in Vegas a few years back, the night before McDaniels 1st game against Denver. That was another great concert mixed in with a Raider game. Another Old Geezer of rock to check off the list.

I saw on of The Bands first live shows ever (not counting when they were backing up Dylan). Winterland San Francisco April 1969. I was a senior in high school down the road in San Jose. I was there Saturday night in that weekend they debuted. Danilo’s voice was terrific as was Levon’s. Not a fan of Robertson’s guitar but he was a great song writer. One of the opening acts that night still plays around a bit — the Sons of Champlain.

Robbie was always about Robbie, and his guitar work is really subpar. I am not even on him so much with his playing as I am about his setup. He seemed to like reverb way too much and the sound became soupy for lack of a better term. His playing became whiny as a result. I get it that he was brought up with more of a blues sound and that does come out in his playing, but even then it was almost a blues/country mix that just laid on top of songs rather than in the songs. Sad because the rest of the guys were so damn talented. Manuel in particular had such creativity and while Levon is not the greatest of drummers, he knew his lane and stayed there. But he had a voice that fit the band perfectly. I admit I missed seeing them live when I had a chance. Just thankful they put it on film so I can go back and enjoy it.
