There's a lot of buzz from reporters about Thornton running with the 1's in minicamp, and I assume that's why people have the impression he's ahead of Bech and Tucker. It would be awesome if he turned his physical gifts into true NFL production, but we have seen rave reviews in camp before. Bryan Edwards was an offseason star a few years ago. It's still better to look good in camp than to look bad in camp so it's promising.

I would say he is ahead on the depth chart because he is there and Beck, last I saw, is not. I would say that makes it relevant.

What Attyla meant (I think) is that Thornton’s "relevance" right now is simply because he's been available and practicing and Beck wasn’t, due to the holdout.
So in that sense, Thornton's getting the reps and making an impression, which makes him stand out for now.
That said, Beck signed recently and is now practicing, so the "irrelevant" tag probably doesn’t apply anymore.
It'll be interesting to see how the competition shakes out once they're both fully in the mix.

Actual training camp is a month away and Bech, and other 2nd round picks, are all likely to be signed by then and I assume that teams are working under that assumption. Jeanty would have been first on the "depth chart" the instant the Raiders turned in the card on draft day even though he didn't have a contract.

And for the person who said the depth chart on the website is the team guessing? I would think not. I am pretty sure they put it up there based on actual conversations with the coaches.
But by your logic, Beck should be higher than Thornton based on draft position. But apparently they may be seeing something in Thornton? Dunno, I am not in camp or a coach, I am just a guy guessing like all the rest of the mugs around here.

The depth chart on the website has Thornton ahead, maybe that is an acknowledgement that one has a contract and the other does not? Or that Thornton is ahead?

And if you're referring to the Raiders website, it says the depth chart will be available in the Fall. It's ok to admit you're wrong.
And Bill Paxton is dead, so don't call me Chet.
You are absolutely overreacting. In Carroll's offense, especially with Jeanty as the focus you need receivers who are good blockers. And with Smith's mobility you equally need receivers who can block.
All I’m saying is that with Thornton, his H-W-S has not translated into stats that those attributes should be. A 6-4 WR who runs 4.30 should produce better stats. Bech had one really good year. So, I tempering my enthusiasm. I’m hoping I’m horribly wrong on both guys.
