Thornton’s combined YAC and Air Yard numbers are absurd. He leads the entire class with 8.94 YAC per reception and prior to adding 20 new receiver prospects to the model, he also led with 12.97 air yards per reception (he’s now 2nd).
Thornton is the only player tracked in the model that averaged over 10+ AY per reception and 8+ YAC per reception. So averaging 12.97 air yards and 8.94 YAC per reception is truly unheard of.
Thornton dominates against both man and zone coverages. He’s 4th in the class with 3.79 YPRR vs Man and is 2nd with 3.19 YPRR vs Zone. He’s 4th in the class in overall YPRR with 2.80.
Thornton also leads the class with a 140.56 QBR when targeted, making him one of the friendliest targets in the draft
Thornton’s advance metrics don’t come at the cost athleticism, as Thornton had one of the highest RAS scores in the combine this year with a 9.80 RAS.
Keep in mind, Thornton’s QBR, YAC, and Air Yard numbers might be inflated with the kind of targets he got and the offense he played in. Which is the primary cause of concern his analytical profile might not be reflective of the level of receiver he is.
His lack of production is also a concern, but there has been a plethora or receiver prospects in the past with low production profiles that have gone on to dominate in the NFL (namely Nico and Puka).

Thornton won’t be DK but he’s going to play the same role. Nothing but deep routes. Get him isolated 1v1, play action and he’ll get TDs and big plays. Tucker will probably start in the role and they’ll rotate.

Physically you can't ask for anything more from the youngster. He needs to focus on his craft and tap into that potential.
