PFF Quarterback Rankings: All 32 starters
Tier 1: Elite
1. PATRICK MAHOMES, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Mahomes still holds the top spot, but the margin has never been slimmer. His passing grade over the past two seasons sits at 86.0, a strong number but a step below the elite level we saw from 2018 through 2022. The supporting cast hasn't always helped, particularly at receiver, but it’s fair to say his otherworldly level of play we saw from him from 2018 to 2022 is starting to get further and further away in the rearview mirror. That said, no one blends poise, playmaking and postseason performance like Mahomes, which is why he remains at No. 1 entering 2025, even if the field is closer than ever.
Tier 2: High-End Starters
8. JUSTIN HERBERT, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
Herbert might be the best regular-season quarterback in non-clutch situations. His 91.0 overall grade over the past three seasons ranks sixth, and when excluding playoff performances, his passing grade actually tops Patrick Mahomes'.
In standard game situations outside of late-game or high-pressure moments, Herbert owns the second-highest passing grade in the league. With another year under Jim Harbaugh and improved weapons around him, we’ll see if he can finally get over the hump.
Tier 3a: Solid starters who have flashed high-end play
10. GENO SMITH, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
Few would have pegged Smith to grade as the sixth-best passer in the NFL over the past two seasons, but here we are. In fact, his 85.8 passing grade in that span is just 0.2 points shy of Patrick Mahomes. After being traded for a third-round pick this offseason, Smith should enjoy an improved offensive line but a downgrade in receiving weapons. He protects the football and has a knack for generating big-time throws.
Tier 4: Young players with a wide range of potential outcomes
19. BO NIX, DENVER BRONCOS
Nix had a strong rookie season, though it was somewhat overshadowed by Jayden Daniels’ historic campaign. If he can avoid the dreaded sophomore slump, the Broncos could be a serious threat in 2025. After a rocky start, including three sub-50.0 game grades in his first four outings, Nix found his footing, posting an 85.7 overall grade the rest of the way, sixth-best in the league over that span.

This does not even take into account what we did in the draft. Jeanty will be a big help to our WR's (forcing teams to bring up the D). I also like the WR's we drafted and I think they will provide a shot in the arm (and they could be under the radar surprises).

Raiders had 2 x 1000 yard receivers to 1 x for the Seahawks. Also let’s not forget Smith was throwing to Seahawk receivers while Raiders receivers had Minshew and AOC throwing them the ball averaging a measly 6.5 yards per attempt.

Throw in a very solid Meyers and that gives you 2 extremely productive players.
Upgrade at Qb as well as Jeanty at Rb and it could very well be a recipe for a pretty fun offense.
I like our new additions at WR, one with massive length and speed, the other well known for his catch rate and toughness.
All this without even mentioning Chip calling plays and the whole team playing for Pete, who players seem to love playing for.
It all feels different this year - I’m stoked.

Smith could surprise people this year. He will have some talent to throw to like Bowers and he will already know what Pete wants to do.
So there will be no growing pains or learning curves with checks and routes. Geno could have a really good year if things go well.

Locket, Metcalf, Njigba had 2700 hundred yards and 13 TD's....
TE contributed another 500 and a touch......
Raiders had 2300 and 9. Bowers/Myers and Mayer....Who else?
It is a fair statement to say Geno coming into this offense is a step down in terms of his WR options.

Even if you include Mayer as we expect him to contribute next year you’re still looking at 1 more player. Add in Tuckers 500 and 3 and all of a sudden it’s not that different and one group had Geno and the other Minshew.
Obviously we’re banking on the rookies playing well but I think Bowers, Meyers and Tucker are as good as anything he was throwing to last year.

The way the article is written, we would be comparing the Seahawk receivers of ‘24 to the Raider receivers of ‘25. Should be easy enough, both groups will have had the same QB. Just gotta wait until the end of this coming season to make the appropriate comparison.

I think Gino stepped into a better situation receiver situation considering the attention that both Bowers and Jeanty will command. The draft will only further put Gino in an even better situation.
