Yep. I always said he'd be the best backup QB in the league because he was competent enough to go .500 until the starter came back.

However, that would require a deep pay cut and there's no way he'd ever do that. Rather than see himself as a guy who might be able to take over as a starter for a team's #1 should that #1 go down or seriously underperform, he instead sees himself as a day one starter no matter where he goes.

Second, he would make more money than we'd want to spend on a bridge/backup QB - I don't know how much his contract is for in 2026 but I believe it's in the $40 million range. Whether a team is willing to pay that is in question, but I don't believe he'd be willing to return to the NFL unless he's being relatively well paid.

That contract level, however, is the reason that he can probably return without the Saints commanding much, if anything, in trade. If he unretires, his contract resumes. If he unretires and is not traded then the Saints, who already have a new QB, would have to pay him $40 million (or whatever it is). They will let him go to another team and he would likely negotiate all of that, or negotiate a release, prior to taking any action. I suspect that all that would be handled pretty easily without conflict. As long as he isn't going to a team in the NFC South, trade compensation would not be a sticking poing.

Regardless, he's just not the right guy to mentor Mendoza. We need a guy who is truly focused on Mendoza instead of just checking himself out in the mirror all day long.
If he were ready for a comeback, would he not have already touched base with the Saints to get the ball rolling? Teams are finalizing plans for their starting QB? Carr cannot contact other teams about their QB situation per the CBA since his rights are retained.

I think this is all a huge nothing burger.

I don't think the Saints would get in his way. If he wants to come back then he's already talked to them about it and requested permission to talk to other teams - I'm sure they would grant permission because they don't want him back now that they've moved on to Shough. Plenty of things could have already happened behind the scenes..... or maybe nothing has happened. We don't know anything for sure.

I think there is about a .01% chance that we add that motherf[raiders_icon]cker back on the Raiders' roster.

All Carr would have to due in unretire and his fat contract goes on the Saints books.

True, but they would get advanced notice of that so could, in theory, move him before it would happen. I doubt he wants to hold the team hostage, he does not seem the type so I am pretty certain he would reach out to them to gauge the direction that would go toward. It may be that they have retained his rights simply to get something for him should he want to resume his career. It may be that they want to ensure he goes to a division foe so they get one or two guaranteed wins a year. Or it may be that they don't care enough to drop him officially. Hard to say, the new ownership is a bit puzzling to me.

All theyd have to do is tell Carr welcome back, we look forward to you competing for a backup quarterback spot. And he will quickly re-retire.

When Carr first came here most of us had some kind of hope. Don't lie. If your a Raiders fan you hoped it might work.
By his 3rd head coaching system it all began to go down hill.
Forget the 6 HCs after.

The hill started in 2017 and he fell off a cliff in 2018. 2016 was his last year of potential
