edge replacement for madmax ???

Unread post by mstrbass2000 »

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports the Eagles “are believed to have inquired” about Vikings EDGE Jonathan Greenard.
This would be a contingency plan for if the Eagles lost Jaelan Phillips to the open market. The Vikings are looking for a Day 2 pick to move Greenard, per Fowler, with the sticking point being that Greenard wants a contract adjustment. This is the first smoke we’ve seen on Greenard actually moving since Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings were open to trading him.

2023 with houston he had 12 sacks
2024 with vikings had 12.5 sacks
2025 only 3 sacks but inj

I'd like Greenard but late 3rd is the highest I'd think is fair. Yes he was injured last year but he played 12 games and only had 3 sacks. His age has to also factor into it at 29, and his injury lowers the value a tad too. He's a big risk IMO especially depending on his contract demands.

If we traded down with pick #14 and grabbed an extra second, I'd be ok if the Raiders traded away a 3rd

We don’t need a player as good as Maxx. we need to be playing with the lead for a change, then the pressures and sacks are easier to come by.

This guy, Day 3 prospect Max Llewellyn DE/Edge Iowa, and it’s not just the name, watch him. Just squint a little and tell me who you see.

pick 14# is a wildcard pick for us, we can trade up for a player that falls or we trade back with a team and pick up more draft picks ...raiders r in a good position to fill a lot of needs via the draft this yr

I like that he's a technique guy not a bull rusher.

If this team focuses on “replacing” Maxx, it’s going to fail. He’s gone. No need to look back.

Build the trenches. When the right edge rusher comes along, we’ll have an idea.

I think it'll be easier to replace his production. We'll need a couple guys who can get 6-10 sacks a year. That should be doable with the crop of free agents and players available for trade right now. Unless they chose not to come here there's no excuse for not replacing his numbers at the minimum

A new pass rusher to replace Maxx is essential. We all know that putting heat on the QB is the name of the game in the NFL. We have a diminished Koonce who may or may not regain his form of two years ago and a below average one-trick pony in Wilson. Watch for them to get one free agent and one relatively high draft pick for the edge. A trade is also possible of course but in any case, the loss of Maxx will mean moves will be made. I have too little knowledge of who is out there to name names.

Maxx is a great player. We can't replace him with one guy - we can replace his pass rush production with multiple players. What's actually harder is replacing his run defense and it's impossible to replace the capability to do both in one guy who you don't have to shuttle on and off the field. Go sign Oweh and you have a passrusher - and then teams are more likely to check to a run because his run defense isn't good.

...I suspect we shall begin to see some semblance of a plan regarding this unfold shortly...
