Aidan admitted it was his fault by clapping early. JPJ was just doing what AOC directed him to. I will say I was impressed with him in his interview after the game.

The sign of a good quarterback is his INT-to-TD Ratio. AOC is my choice.

And in that KC game, nobody's mentioned the refs on that last play. Not saying we deserved the win and Carlson already had kicking problems that day. But the kid put us in position to win.
Great coaching was responsible for that ending! Remember: he was supposed to throw it out of bounds...

Again, Geno didn't throw a single pick in preseason. Preseason doesn't matter.
AOC's problem is he's an NPC. He does what hes told, nothing more, nothing less.

To be fair to O'Connell, he really has had to deal with 3 or 4 OCs and 3 different systems in the three years he's been here----and this is his third year in the league.

It's fair to wonder how he'd do with the same OC two entire years in a row.

I dont want my QB scared to risk throwing an Int when the games on the line though. If they are making business decisions, then we cant have that either.

It's actually the opposite.

Raider fans overrate the Raiders roster, and as a result ignore the Raiders win percentage without O'Connell.

The Raiders win percentage doubles with O'Connell at QB. The worst team in the NFL has double the chance of winning with O'Connell than without. That fact alone proves that O'Connell is worthy of the starting spot.

he is an odd one for sure. He uses stand alone stats that do not apply apples to apples at any time. His claims are laughable and when challenged he disappears like a fart in the wind

I actually like AOC12 he’s a decent kid and has some skills to be a pocket passer.

His issue is he’s not reacting fast enough to what he sees in front of him. He sees where the play is supposed to go but almost always too late.

If he could speed that up he’d have a shot but game speed processing isn’t something that can really be taught. Either you have it or you don’t. This is crippling given his relative lack of mobility.

Otherwise? Pretty good arm, good leadership instincts.

He does process slowly. He is simply a game manager who does not have any urgency. When I was watching them play last preseason (2024) the pace with Minshew was almost twice as fast as with O'Connell. Getting to the line and getting the play off was stunningly different between the two. It is like O'Connell only has one gear.

AOC is a career backup player at Qb. Nothing against the kid as he seems to have a great mindset and attitude. Never in the headlines for stupid stuff kids with money in a tempting city often do. It surprises even myself how much I want to see him back in the starting lineup.

While you’re at it, try and get that 5th round pick back by trading Picket to the Vikings - seems they may be desperate enough.

Honest question for the AOC crowd. Has his play improved? Has he finally figured out pocket awareness? Has he learned to use his progressions? Does he know how to scan the field? Has he removed the hot steamer from his pants? There is nothing I would love more than for this kid to be the guy (especially since he is on a rookie contract). I had high hopes for him and expected improvement since he had a camp where he was the starter. I just do not see it. At best, he is a poor mans backup. Has he had some moments? Sure he has just like Minshew had the first couple of games of last season. Unfortunately, a couple of moments means dick.

To be honest, other than one guy who has said he is elite but now has dialed that back, nobody thinks O'Connell is much more than a backup and many see him as marginal there as well. The only reason there is any discussion of him being a starter is because we have less than zero at the position with Geno way underperforming. It is small wonder that Carroll has brought in Lockett. He is doing everything he can dial up to get that fixed.

But back to O'Connell. He does not do progressions well. He locks on his guy and that is it most the time. His deep ball half the time floats. He does not feel the pass rush and his footwork has not improved. His best throws are on slants or short yard passes. He is accurate but that is a product of the throws he likes to make. He seems a smart player and on designed timing plays can usually hit is target.

That said, if you push him out of the pocket, forget it. He is not going to hit his man on the run. And when he is going to go deep his arm almost seems to slow down he takes so long to get the ball in the air. One of my biggest gripes about the guy is he relies on that arm and has not worked on his lower body to set up. He obviously should be able to get those deep ball throws but he relies on the arm and it kills him. On those occasions where he does set up, the deep ball looks good, so he can do it, he just mostly does not.

Two things can be true.

1. Aidan should not be an NFL starting QB due to his athletic and speed of processing limitations.

2. He is better than what Geno has showed and at least can run the offense and not throw it to the other team non stop.
