Don't Worry Be Happy
I think the frustration of losing is really starting to boil over on this forum. We have kind of divided into two factions. One is trying to maintain some semblance of optimism while the other believes 2025 is a lost cause.
I am not sure either point of view necessarily wrong just yet.
To lighten things up answer two questions on this thread if you care to:
1-Why did you choose the screen name that you did?
2-What is a funny Raider moment or yarn off of the field.
I'll go first. Elvis "Toast" Patterson and his horse collar used to crack me up. He always looked like a nut case on the sidelines chewing on his mouth piece. Buffalo's Steve Tasker seemed to always get recognized as the AFC's premier special teams players but Toast was pretty darn good as well and if I remember correctly he did make a Pro Bowl as a Raider. One of my favorite players from my youth.
The Raiders were playing at Mile High Stadium during the 1985 season. Dokie Williams was going up for a pass and was blatantly hit before the ball got there. It was an obvious interference penalty that wasn't called.
George Anderson yelled at the ref calling him a blind little cocksucker. The ref turned back to the Raiders bench and asked who made the comment. No one responded to which the ref replied that if whoever said it were a man he would fess up. Finally George Anderson fessed up and immediately the ref flagged the Raiders bench for a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty. Once the ref was out of earshot George Anderson lamented how stupid he was, he never should have called the ref little.
The Raiders ended up winning the game and apparently even Al managed to smile after George recounted in the locker room how the ref baited him into confessing.

Similar story. We were at a local school shooting hoops when a Porsche 911 pulls up and Wendall Tyler (RB 49ers) gets out, comes over and asks if he could join. He gave me the basketball nickname Dr. Wizard.

Perhaps the greatest blues guitarists of our era.srv5490 wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 9:13 pm My screen name is an homage to Stevie Ray Vaughn (born '54, died '90).
When I was coaching travel softball, we went down to SoCal for a tournament and Charlie Smith was our ump. Never played another tournament where we stayed at the same field and had the same ump all day Saturday and Sunday, but that was the case for this one. So, I got to spend a fair amount of time with him and hear a bunch of stories from the glory years. Great guy, and a very good ump, too.

Beef is so expensive now you got to be rich to throw a BBQ.Attyla wrote: Fri Oct 17, 2025 5:47 am it has been a while and it may have changed, but surprisingly Walmart had the best frozen burgers for a tailgate. Meat and fat combination is perfect for really flavorful patties. It is just a matter at that point of adding salt and pepper during the cook. Those were some good burgers over the flames.

Raiders, A's and Warriors fan which were all in Oakland hence Oaktownonly. Raiders moved, Warriors moved and A's are moving. Didn't think that would happen at the time.

Well the city of Oakland could have built with the help of A,s and Raiders a stadium to host both teams in one stadium and build retractable fields…I know Mark Davis really tried to keep the raiders in Oakland but got no help from the Oakland council….Oaktownonly wrote: Fri Oct 17, 2025 11:04 pm Raiders, A's and Warriors fan which were all in Oakland hence Oaktownonly. There was a time where there was a really cool park planned. As stadium. Raiders stadium. Shopping. Hotels. A huge mega center. The city was gonna donate the land. That was all. Then a new mayor came in and squashed it allSuperRaider wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 2:48 am Well the city of Oakland could have built with the help of A,s and Raiders a stadium to host both teams in one stadium and build retractable fields…I know Mark Davis really tried to keep the raiders in Oakland but got no help from the Oakland council….

I gotta admit, the renderings of the new A's digs looks cool as hell.Raidernation1979 wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 5:40 am There was a time where there was a really cool park planned. As stadium. As for the Warriors, the new arena is not that far away. It takes a bit via the Bart, but it is doable. 1 1/2 hour ride from what I have gathered.

Of course it will all work out but that original rendering for the site of the old colliseum with all the venues and all the other stuff planned was really cool. Virtually impossible to find now. I think it was Jean Quan who was mayor and had the deal in place then Libby Schaff got in and killed it.Attyla wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 6:15 am I gotta admit, the renderings of the new A's digs looks cool as hell.

I was just at Jack London Square a few days ago at sunset. The square itself is decent but surrounded by shit. It’s too bad they couldn’t find a way to place a new ballpark on the water in that area. Could have been spectacular.

Still a fan of the teams but my username doesn't make sense anymore. As for my avatar, I use the Raider shield as my avatar for everything.

Al Davis: We're dedicated, to building an outstanding football organization. An organization that we ourselves can be proud of. An organization that will represent ourselves and our community. With these thoughts in mind, we're going to predicate this organization on class, pride and poise.
Mark Davis: I give them goals. And then I get out of the way and let them try to do it and let the results speak for themselves (in regards to how he manages his coaches)
Yes Dufus, they do indeed.

He was a really nice guy. I got to speak with him for about a half hour doing a phone interview. Could not have been a better guy to someone who was a nobody.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 9:58 am Bo = The main reason I'm a Raiders fan

The guy who was to become my best friend, asked me the Fall of our freshman year of college: do you like football? I said I was a big basketball fan as that what I had played and he said "well, you ought to be a fan of the Oakland Raiders because they are the most charismatic team in pro sports." OK, I said I would watch some games with him. The 1969 season was fun, but it got really good right after that, and Marv Hubbard was the a key player for them in that period of 1970-76. It was his style that we liked the most though and this, from Wikipedia, spells it out and hence my avatar and name:
Hubbard was quick for his size, and powerfully built. Famous for his aggressive style, he was a fan favorite of the John Madden-led Raiders in the early to mid 1970s. In an interview with the Contra Costa Times, Madden stated: "Marv Hubbard was one of the toughest players we ever had. There are people that will have contact and people that won't have contact, but only a few that will have it and really enjoy it. Marv was one of those guys who truly enjoyed the collision. He would look for it." Hubbard averaged 4.82 yards per carry during his professional career, which ranks third all time for an NFL fullback (behind only Pro Football Hall of Fame fullbacks Jim Brown and Joe Perry) and is tied for 13th for all-time top yards per carry for any player in NFL history. His career yards per carry average was higher than many of the games legendary running backs, including Walter Payton, O. J. Simpson, Eric Dickerson, Emmitt Smith and Marshall Faulk. Hubbard led the Raiders in rushing four straight seasons from 1971 to 1974, and averaged over 1,000 total yards from scrimmage in each
