The Mount Rushmore + 4 of Raider Misery
Why eight? Because this “franchise” is so comically bad they get four “bonus” games. Or it’s impossible to pick just four, you be the judge.
Every franchise has a few ugly Sundays, for the Raiders it’s a few ugly decades.
Trying to cram forty years of face-palming absolutely bad football into four spots felt impossible, so welcome to the Mount Rushmore + 4, eight games that sum up our endless suffering as fans of this crapstastic franchise. Season after season of misery. Just when you think it can’t get any worse? The Raiders say “hold my beer.”
What kicked this off was another forum post postulating between which two games were worse. I got to thinking, that can’t be done. There are worse games than just two.
So without further delay, the Raiders Mt Rushmore of Misery +4 in no particular order.
1) 1991 @ Bills - 51-3
AFC Championship. The dynasty’s funeral. The Bills were sprinting laps while we looked like we’d wandered into the wrong stadium. This was the moment “Just Win, Baby” officially expired, we just didn’t know it had.
2) 2006 @ Chargers - 21-0
Art Shell II, Andrew Walter, and an offense that should’ve come with a parental advisory. 129 yards total. Thirteen third-downs, thirteen failures. Offensive football died that day. Or better to say it was offensive.
3) 2014 @ Rams - 52-0
Carr’s rookie baptism by napalm. Down 38-0 at halftime, and FOX literally cut away to other games. When TV networks show mercy, you know it’s over. The sad part is I had to look this one up because they have become a blur.
4) 2022 @ Saints - 24-0
Didn’t cross midfield until the final drive. Derek Carr completing passes to ghosts. McDaniels coaching like he left the playbook on the bus. Soul-crushing in its precision.
Stidham comes in and crosses mid-field!!! Celebrate! /sarcasm
5) 2025 @ Chiefs - 31-0
Ninety-five total yards. Three first downs. The modern remake of every collapse before it. Decades later, same plot, same sorry team, same ending. Same eveything.
ETA: apparently since 1950 we are only the second team to run 30 offensive plays or less… let that sink in.
6) 2013 vs Eagles - Nick Foles’ 7 TDs
A backup QB morphs into Joe Montana on our field. Seven touchdowns. SEVEN. We made history, just for someone else. As I recall the crowd was actually cheering for Foles after 5?
7) 2007 @ Vikings - 3-0
Fifteen punts. A field-goal loss that felt like performance art. You could hear the tumbleweeds rolling across the Metrodome turf. Watching paint dry was more exciting.
8) 2020 @ Falcons - 43-6
Coming off a near-win over the Chiefs, all we had to do was act like a professional football team.
Nope.
Instead: five turnovers, eleven flags, and a meltdown that killed the playoff dream before December. By that’s par for the course with the Raiders.
The modern-era encapsulation of “just when you think…”
Every few years the jerseys change, the zip code changes, the coach swears “this time it’s different.” And every time, it isn’t. The Raiders don’t rebuild; they simply replay the same bad movie as they have for decades with a new roster and coaches, but somehow, someway the results are always the same.
It’s beyond pathetic at this point.

Honorable Mentions (aka the Junior Varsity of Misery). Because eight wasn’t enough and misery never sleeps:
9) 1986 @ Eagles 33-27 (OT) – The one that started the slide. Blew a 17-0 lead and the next forty years followed.
10) 2003 Super Bowl vs Buccaneers 48-21 – Gruden dismantled the offense he built while the Raiders ran his old playbook. That’s not losing, that’s plagiarism caught on live TV.
Of course we were that dumb to NOT change anything.
11) 2010 @ Jaguars 38-31 – Gave up 500 yards to David Garrard. Yes, that’s right David Garrard….
12) 2021 @ Chiefs 48-9 – Started the game by stomping on the logo, ended by getting stomped on the scoreboard.
I think that’s enough for now…

Every year it seems like this team reaches new levels of futility. I’m beginning to wonder if the organization will ever get things right. What’s going to be better next season? Really? It’s like every player they sign and every coach they hire somehow becomes really bad at their jobs. It was reasonable to expect that Smith could at least be serviceable as he was in Seattle but as a Raider he straight up can’t play. Same with Garoppolo and Minshew. None of these guys were ever great or even very good but as a Raider they couldn’t play full stop. I just don’t understand what’s going on.

We need to invent a new word because futility isn’t cutting it anymore.heavyD wrote: Mon Oct 20, 2025 7:01 am Every year it seems like this team reaches new levels of futility.

How is Brett Favre literally beating us by himself not on a list
41-7 2003.
Favre's father dies the day before, and a grieving Brett Favre blows us out. Rick Mirer was so bad they thought Rob Johnson could do better. Nope, Johnson got intercepted on his first drive. Enter Tee Martin, dear God, who fumbled the ball. Even Jerry Rice fumbled the ball but thank God we recovered that gaff. Our lone TD was curtesy of Charlie Garner who stomped out a 25 yard run for the score. Ronald Curry grabbed one pass for one fucking yard. This may well have been the game that ended Bill Callahan's job.
Favre had one of his best games ever, and even Raider fans at the game gave him a standing ovation for his, from the guts, performance. Nick Cage was quoted as saying

I’m trying to figure how any football fan age 35 or younger can be a Raider fan in the first place. Us grey beards have old memories to hold onto but I just can’t understand how there are any young Raider fans around.

Some people are a glutton for abuse, but I must say it makes little to zero sense!Xramfan wrote: Mon Oct 20, 2025 8:55 am I’m trying to figure how any football fan age 35 or younger can be a Raider fan in the first place. I think I have a new term for this:
Raidiculous (adj.) - something so profoundly self-destructive that it transcends normal failure; a uniquely Raider brand of chaos where improbable situations become routine.
Usage: “The Raiders once had a 3rd and 48… and the “QB” threw a pass four yards. Into the back of the receiver. That’s Raidiculous.”

I keep repeating myself but no one seems really get it.
The Greatness of the Raiders is because of one man and it ain't Al Davis. The evidence is so clear why can't people see it as THE REASON for the Greatness and for the absolute shit that has come ever since, except for 4 years before at the turn of the millennium.
Ron Wolf is the man that made the Raiders great in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. Al was the vision of the Raiders but Al sucked ass at personnel evaluations. The only thing Al did right besides the vision of what he wanted his football team to be was in having Ron Wolf and selecting John Madden as his Head Coach. Making Madden his head coach was his greatest decision. 95% of everything he did after that sucked ass. He got Gruden right but then once again his fucking ego kicked Gruden away and the Raiders got fucked up and completely embarrassed in that SB.
Proof for how great Ron Wolf was for the greatness of those early decades of the Raiders is when Wolf was let go/shoved out by Al and what Wolf accomplished in Green Bay and bringing back the Greatness of the Packers.
I don't see the silver and black ever getting good again because Pete has been a big disappointment so far and Spytek is a unproved GM that was selected because of a former player that we all hated.
Now that the Raiders are in Vegas Nevada I have so much less connection to them than even when they moved to LA. at least I was younger and dumber back then when I should have said Fuck Al for moving our team and jumped over to the other side of the bay and watched that dynasty begin. At least the 49ers are still decent to watch and are the only team close to my location now.
So until that large loser of a person who was just extremely lucky to come out of the right birth canal sells this organization, which I don't see him doing then fuck it.

Yep that's me. I am a Gluton for punishment. I have been a raiders fan since 2009 but it doesn't stop there. I work a really really hard job that doesn't pay enough. I have an abusive wife who pretty much hates me and calls me names. I lost my band and all my friends. My daughter is 6 and nonverbal. So yeah the raiders being bad is just the icing on top of the cake which is my life.pfish57 wrote: Mon Oct 20, 2025 9:04 am Some people are a glutton for abuse, but I must say it makes little to zero sense!

Life's too short bro. Get rid of that broad and get some peace of mind into your life. Women are a pain in the ass. I bet your daughter would start talking with the mother like that gone...kids see and hear everything.
