As a huge gamecock guy I knew he would. He's kind of like Maxx relentless motor. Highly competitive. Doesn't mind doing the dirty work even if others get credit for the sack/tackle always been a glue guy.

Kinda like how the 2014 draft set us up for success. Khalil Mack, Derek Carr, Gabe Jackson, Jellybean Ellis, TJ Carrie, Denice Autry, Shelby Harris. That was 3 studs and some good contributors. Unfortunately one broken leg can derail all momentum.

Trying to remember. Wasn’t Gabe a stud for the first few years, then just fell off? Or maybe he was a stud until we started losing all the actual studs like Penn-Hudson-Osemele.

It’s easy to hate on Carr now but years 1-3, he was on a trajectory to be our franchise QB. He WAS a certified stud by year 3. The broken leg derailed all our hopes and dreams. Mack was elite and Gabe Jackson was a borderline pro bowler for about 3 years. The rest were all solid contributors. If this years draft is close to 2014, then we are on the right track. Stack 2-3 drafts in a row and we’re suddenly a perennial playoff team.

To me he was not a certified stud. He was seemingly growing into that role. 2017 was supposed to be his breakout put it altogether year. Many claimed Musgrave was holding him back. A lot of people were excited about downing. He peaked in 2015/16. Had more TDs in 15. To each his own and I’m not arguing about Carrbage anymore. This is my view on how it was

Gabe had some minor nagging injuries, but yea he played really well for us at times. We started moving him around which coupled with the injuries caused him to fall off. Played well when he left here.

Denico Autry was a legitimate starter for the Colts after he left here too. Carrie was an 8 year starter, not just here but for two other teams. Calling that draft 1 stud+roleplayers is such an oversimplification, I'd argue it's blatantly false.

2016 was derailed, it was like for once everything was going right squad wise and late in the season we were as good as anyone in the league. But we were totally going to be that 1 year and done type of team which is most common.

Derek looked pretty good from the start because of two reasons. What we had prior. He worked fast and got rid of the ball which made the offense look more competent. While being a rook/young Capt Checkdown wasn't quite born yet. As he went along, we realized he worked super fast because he played scared in the pocket and you can't do that and be great in this league. He was this person from the start and now in hindsight it's who he always was. It wasn't the broken leg that derailed him, that derailed a season. It was his protective mechanism inside his mind, granted long term it will pay off, but winning balls games, not so much.

You could be right but I thought he had a willingness to run that was subdued after the injury. He was also learning to be very careful with the ball his 2nd and 3rd season. After the injury it became apparent that he was afraid to be hit even at the expense of ball protection.
