Music Trivia Thread
I have been putting this in other threads, but am afraid I am just cluttering up those threads, so I will stop doing that and just do stuff in this one. Care to join in? I am all about learning more about music. So here we go.
Here are five artists from the UK who are really well known, and they had hits on both sides of the Atlantic, but had a lot more success in the US than in their home countries. There may be more and if you know one, feel free to join in.
First, we start with Ringo Starr of the Beatles. He had a lot of success as a solo artist in the US with a number of top 40 singles, far more in the US than in the UK. Songs like Photograph did quite well in the US, but not so much over seas
Second, Sheena Easton, she did well on both sides, but had a lot more success in the US with songs like Sugar Walls
Third, the Alan Parson's Project. They did OK in the UK but had a lot of success in the US, with songs like Games People Play
Next we have Steve Winwood who was quite successful as a solo artist, but much more so in the US
And finally, we have George Harrison, another Beatle. Had a lot of success as a solo artist in the US and was also a part of the Traveling Wilbury's.

Back in the late 60's a new band was looking for gigs. And every time this British band would get a shot, the venue's would refuse to book them again. They were just terrible. But the band knew this but also knew they had to get gigs to get better. So they came up with a genius idea. They would just change their name after every gig, and surprisingly enough it worked. And sometimes they did not even know their new name and would have to look at the lineup to figure it out. The band name they did not recognize, that was them that night. And they did end up getting better over time even though the venue's would ask, "Don't we know you?' And finally they got good enough that after a killer gig at the Marquee they were invited back. But now they were stuck with the name their booking agent had assigned them. And thus was born Jethro Tull. And where does the name originate from? Tull was an agricultural pioneer from the 1700s who invented the seed drill. Their agent was a history buff.
Tull would go onto have moderate success beating out Metallica for the first ever Grammy in the new heavy metal category. It is obvious that the name was likely the reason since nobody who knows their sound could classify them as heavy metal. But Lars of Metallica had a great response when it was their turn....

I worked in a cath lab for many years and the director always loved to have music on while doing a case. I was on call for STEMI, which is a heart attack, and was called in around 3 am. , he loved Billy Joel and as the case moved forward, the line "HEART atTACK ack ACK ack ACK ack", played.
The team all stopped and looked at each other and almost died right there....

At a concert for the 50th anniversary of the Beatles first performance on the Ed Sullivan show, a young band covered "All My Loving" with Paul McCartney in attendance. After the show, Paul went up to the lead singer and struck up a conversation. Paul said to the singer, "We did it better." To which the front man replied, "No shit, you're Paul McCartney of the Beatles!"
Flash forward three months and the singer is at a party, and Paul was there too. Someone told him that Paul wanted to see him. Paul said the conversation had been bothering him since and he wanted to apologize for being rude But he was assured it was all good and he could not believe how sweet he was.. Proof that he may be the nicest star in music. Do you know the singer and his band?

Name the song....[/quote]That’s awesome. Reminds me when I was a paramedic intern and beginning my ambulance internship. First call out of the gate was a guy shot to doll rags but still alive. I’m Intubating the patient, establishing IVs, plugging holes and My preceptor played this loudly in the ambulance as we were code 3 to the trauma center.
