Some Raider defensive players win in this as well - we play the Jets in 2026.chucker wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2026 1:16 pm Getting anything in return for Geno is a major win. This is a rare win-win-win-win scenario.
Geno likely ends up with some more money than he would have with an outright release because if it were an outright release then he'd have just ended up playing for the vet minimum.
The Raiders get to swap a 7 for a 6 - essentially zeroing out the cost of the Taron Johnson trade.
The Jets get the first overall pick in 2027.
Aaron Glenn gets to sit on the couch in 2027 and get paid millions to do it.
I think the Jets just knew that no player would choose them over another situation other than for the $$. If Geno had been released, then they essentially could not pay him more than another team could pay him because any extra above the minimum would just end up in the Raiders pockets due to offsets. So they made a trade instead. I'm still surprised they were willing to make this trade, but they may have higher hopes for Geno than we do.heavyD wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2026 1:49 pm I get the Jets wanting to secure 1st overall but clearly they thought Smith would have a market in free agency as there’s no other reason to trade and pay him more than they had to. I suspect they noticed the Cardinals added Minshew making them a threat for 1st overall and aggressively went after their guy.
Not locked up til they get Brennan Carroll...Rabidraider wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2026 1:40 pm My Jet buddy is flabbergasted...
I had to talk him down off the roof...
I told him you have a great shot of #1 overall next year...
Then I reminded him of 0.14...
He went back on the roof...
Until Grandpa Manning gets wind they are going to draft him and gets him to pull an Eli
I cant see how we didnt get an A for that.vtraider wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2026 1:45 pm Espn graded the trade as a B for the raiders and a D for the Jets
Are teams drafting him based off DNA or production. Haven't heard much about him doing anything special in college.
Agreed, we were cutting him anyway, eating 18.5M. Jets give us 20 draft spots and reduce our cap hit down to 16.2 M.
