Raiders set to release QB Geno Smith after 1 season in Las Vegas

Should surprise nobody as he would be a horrible mentor for Mendoza. While Raiders fans should be eternally greatful that Geno was so terrible that the Raiders finally finished 32, this guy won't be missed. Raiders have had a lot of terrible QB's over the years but he's by far the least likeable of the lot. Whether he was on the sidelines looking dejected and mopy, or flipping the bird to fans, he came off extremely unlikeable and the fact is that he was one of the very worst QB's in 2025. Good riddance!

I hear you. Hopefully, that is a thing of the past. It's time to be a real franchize..... and it looks like we're on a new path. As an old friend from the "old site" would say: time will tell.pfish57 wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 4:56 pm It's mind boggling the amount of $$$ this organization has wasted on trash![]()

I'm optimistic, but still have a 'they need to prove it' mentality.Dr Death wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 5:04 pm I hear you. Hopefully, that is a thing of the past. I believe Geno will be on a roster at the vet minimum - he'd have to get a contract of higher than $18 million to have any reason to sign for more than the vet minimum. If he plays for less than the $18.5 million in salary that he's guaranteed from the Raiders then all of it offsets and the Raiders save the money and he makes the same amount as if he'd sat on the couch. Unless his contract doesn't have offset clauses in it, and that would be pretty surprising. I can't see a bidding war for Geno that has him making more than $18 million - perhaps a Wendy's endorsement?Attyla wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 3:09 pm I would bet both are on a roster this year and not at the vet minimum

Good riddance to the turnover machine. Please go to an AFC West rival.

According to over the cap the Raiders now have:
$121,725,607 in cap space.
Does Wilkins 29 million dead cap effect this number?

Geno will play somewhere. Veteran QB's with some semblance of past success are rarer than a pork chop in Somalia.

Wilkins' dead cap is baked into that number. There is still an outstanding grievance with Wilkins that could make the number bigger or smaller depending on which way it goes.Rabidraider wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 5:38 am According to over the cap the Raiders now have:

The number does not yet include the savings from the Geno Smith release so we'll also save about $7 million with that.

Does anyone know when that decision will be made?chucker wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 5:42 am Wilkins' dead cap is baked into that number. There is still an outstanding grievance with Wilkins that could make the number bigger or smaller depending on which way it goes.

Vinnie mentioned that a hearing would happen in the spring. Whatever happens, I would expect that the impact will be an adjustment to the 2027 cap and have no impact on 2026.
