As bad as last night was. The Raiders have to move on and do it quickly on a short week.

Even worst it’s an early start in the east coast against a team that had their minimum bye week. So they will be rested and had plenty of time to game plan for us.

This is an early big test.

Well the oline stinks and teams are stacking the box. I saw 10 Monday one time.
Untill the passing game comes out of cardiac arrest its the script for the season.

Jeanty had 1 negative run on Monday. 1 I think for no gain. They abandon him to early. Even when it can work.

Watching film:

-On Geno's first pick, nothing was open. Great defense. Tre Tucker was technically the right read since he was the only WR that had any space, but Geno lead him instead of throwing a dart at his chest.

-On the forced pass to Tre Tucker who was double covered in the endzone, Jeanty had a step on his man in the flat. If Jeanty gets past him, there's nothing but daylight on the entire right side of the field. If you're Geno, you have to check it down there and see what the 6th overall pick can do.

-On the Khalil Mack sack play, Thornton was open and would have only had the middle third to beat for a TD.

-On our first red zone series, on the pass to Jakobi Meyers in the corner that got broken up, Jack Bech was on wide open on the right dig. The entire Chargers defense abandoned him, and the safety lazily trails him. If the pass goes that way, it's an easy TD.

Also, on that same play, Jeanty once again is 1v1 in the flat with no one on the right side of the field. The Raiders lined up on the left hash so there was a lot of space for Jeanty to reach into his tool bag to beat the LB for a TD or at the very least an easy first and goal (Raiders were at the 20).

-On the Thronton bomb, that was the right read. DTJ had his man beat, unfortunately, Geno Smith just doesn't have the arm strength, so he floats it, making it appear as if Thornton was covered. Still, it should have been PI.

-Meredith and Parham are the weak links when it comes to run blocking. A fact, which, should surprise no one.

-On the punt-interception, it turns out it wasn't Geno's fault. When Geno rolled to his right Thornton was wide open. It was the right read. Unfortunately, Thornton made a rookie mistake and instead of sitting on the curl he streaks, which forces Geno to try to hero ball it up to him. If Thornton stays where he is, we easily move the chains via him or Tre Tucker running the post.

Still, I would have liked for us to play conservative and check it down there. Dylan Laube was cooking that whole series and would have easily gotten 15+ yards as no one was around him. Move the chains and live to fight again.

-On the back shoulder throw to Meyers, Thornton was wide open on the zig, with major YAC potential (Again, right side of the field wide open). This is one of the few truly bad reads from Geno.

-On the forced pass to Meyers in the endzone, IMO, Tre Tucker should have been the read. Wouldn't have been the easiest pass, but you give your burner a chance on the corner route with the third hedging towards the middle of the field. Just like against the Patriots (granted, that play had more space).

As an aside, the defense played great on that play. Nothing was easy nor obvious. The smart play would be to play conservative and draw Jeanty up the middle with Derwin James bailing for the Tampa 2/Cover 3 middle zone. You either get the first or come away with 3 points. Instead, Geno throws a pick.

-On the play where Parham has a brainfart and decides to TRIPLE TEAM instead of blocking his matchup, the Chargers were playing strict cover 2. Thornton was wide open in the hole and Jakobi Meyers is also wide open in the middle of the field. Geno stares down Bowers and gets sacked.

-Chargers did a good job disguising their Tampa 2. Derwin James has elite IQ and lateral quickness, so he is able to turn that hook into a middle third, when necessary, which then allows the coach to fool the offense those rare times they actually ran cover 3.

-Every time the Raiders lined up on the left hash, the Chargers left the right side of the field open. I would have liked the Raiders to have taken advantage of that. Hopefully next time we face them.

Summary: The sky is not falling with Geno Smith. Yes, he had a bad game, but almost all of his decisions made sense. The main problem I see is that he simply doesn't have the throw power to make the deep threat viable. If Geno were 26 years old, Thornton has 2 TDs against the Chargers.

This will sound controversial, but I really like that he's giving the rookie a chance to make an impact and not just letting him be a decoy for Bowers, Jakobi Meyers, and Ashton Jeanty. Once Thornton and Geno get the chemistry down, he's going to put numbers up.

We won't know until we know, but they probably think they can beat us without him, so why sacrifice a franchise QB in a week 3 game against a non-conference opponent?

I don't know if Daniels is all he's cracked up to be though. He hasn't looked much like he did in his rookie year. Year two is often the eye-opener. A season's worth of film and tendencies can be a shock (see our own Turd). Then it comes down to whether the player is able to adjust and how quickly.

We have a shot to win this one. I don't think it's probable, but it's not impossible, even if Daniels starts. I'm hoping that our offense is quickly evolving and being evaluated for what it's good at and what it's not good at. Getting Jeanty more reps would be great but you don't run the ball simply for the sake of it. It does the team no good to run him into a brick wall three times in a row. Hopefully our blocking scheme improves as it is because Pete ain't shitcanning his son for any reason.

That was the biggest red flag of the offseason.

This is great breakdown.

Yeah it seems after two games Thorton is getting deep separation but Geno isn’t leading him or waiting too long to throw. I think if there is an opportunity where single high safety cheats to Tucker or opposite side WR going deep, Geno should fling it Thorton early and lead him to see what he can do.

Also, I saw somewhere that the Raider defense is the 3rd toughest team to covert a 1st down against on 3rd down. That’s inspiring being that offense is till trying to find an indentity.

Good thing we drafted an elite RB high in the draft so that we could be 28th in rushing attempts through two games

I just hope we don’t trot out the same starting Oline as last week. I’d rather they experiment with the lineup and fail than to just maintain the status quo that obviously isn’t working

I think there is a good chance he plays. They said they are holding him put of practice until Friday. Unless he has a setback I expect to see him on Sunday.
