Id prefer Leonard over someone like Bradley but im not going to get too worked up over any DC hire. OC along with the offensive position coaches are the ones we need to nail.

TT didnt do anything wrong but with new ownership they wanted Brady / GM and HC all in unison working together. It makes perfect sense to start fresh and Spytek seems perfect for this goal.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Vikings don't have to grant the Raiders permission to hire McCown away even though it would be a promotion for him.

But if McCown was the direction it could be a domino effect. I was of the belief before the last two games that Darnold played that the Vikings wouldn't franchise tag him. The tag I believe would be at 41 or 42 million and Darnold would be a fool not to sign it.

The interesting thing about Darnold is that his contract voids. Again, unless I'm mistaken when a contract voids there is no longer a compensatory angle. Meaning the Vikings would get nothing in terms of compensatory picks. Aaron Jones and his contract also voids with the Vikings.

IF the Raiders added McCown as the offensive coordinator they could easily add Darnold and Jones and still not have any marks towards the compensatory formula. And that really could be key. Who knows what the Raiders plan with their own free agents to be. If they decide to let them walk, they could be sitting kind of a pretty a year from now with compensatory picks.

They could also keep down the path of signing players who's contracts voided and build a team up and still have their draft picks AND get rewarded with compensatory picks. The list of players who's contracts void is as if not more impressive than the list of free agents out there.

The exception is that if a contract voids at the option of a player or team then it may not qualify for compensatory picks. I don't claim to know all the rules in detail, but there have been many voided contracts that led to comp picks in the past.

I think you're right about McCown. Also note that the Rooney Rule applies to coordinator positions and the QB coach position, so it will take time to fulfil those requirements even if Carroll has a pretty good idea what he'll do.

Whoever he brings in is fine with me, as I'm sure he will have his finger on the pulse of the defense. Having said that.... I really don't want anymore of Bradley.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is the perfect situation for Rob Leonard to take over as DC.

I think the OC is the most important hire, similar to last season and hopefully we've learned from those mistakes. Id be hesitant to have a first time play caller in such a crucial role when the head coach is a defensive guy.

i'd like Leonard as well but also would be fine with Graham coming back. i'm not going to worry about the succession thing..but both would possibly be solid HCs down the road.

Graham seems very intelligent and i believe he would make a good coach someday

I think it will be Kubiak for offense, Leonard for DC
