I wish he was younger. I don't follow college closely but the players are just older than they used to be.
Between the COVID year (which this should be the last year dealing with that). And players getting more red shirt years and transfers.
I mean there's a guy somewhere that's going into his ninth year of college football which is crazy.

Pregnon does make real sense for us and then perhaps trade back up to nab Lee Hunter.

Top 10 best remaining players according to Dane Brugler:
Jermod McCoy - CB - Tennessee
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren - S - Toledo
Denzel Boston - WR - Washington
Avieon Terrell - CB - Clemson
Colton Hood - CB - Tennessee
T.J. Parker - EDGE - Clemson
Kayden McDonald - DT - Ohio State
Chase Bisontis - OG - Texas A&M
Zion Young - EDGE - Missouri
D’Angelo Ponds - CB - Indiana
We could use WR, CB, and S. I'm all for stacking the trenches though especially given their current state. My order is McDonald, Bisontis (or Pregnon if they feel he fits the scheme better), Boston, McCoy, McNeil-Warren.
I know the Bills at 35 need a WR and DT badly, suspect they'll take either McDonald or Boston if they don't trade out again.

The guy is a top 10 talent, unarguably, without injury. I know he's not our most pressing need but I've seen way too many top talent injury concern guys actually pan out rather than busting the last 10 years or so. And since our window is 2-3 years out it makes sense for us.
Strengths
Supreme all-around athlete; has everything you could want.
Finds the ball in the air at a high level.
Keeps connection with receivers from press throughout the route.
Weaknesses
Missed the 2025 season with a torn ACL last January.
Can be reluctant to fill vs. the run.
Eight penalties in 2024, even with no illegal contact in college

NIL money plays into this as well. You are making good money to stay in school and improve your draft stock. But Pregnon is just 24 and guards can last a long long time in the NFL so his age means very little to me.

No corners tickle my fancy in the 1st or 2nd round.

Good teams can take guys who sustained season ending injuries high in the draft. Bad teams need to fill slots with players high in the draft who can impact right away. In our case, we are already drafting a guy who will not start day one, we cannot do that twice in two consecutive picks.

Agreed, there were a couple in the first round but I would not have taken one. That said, we will almost certainly take one on day three but that is also likely a special teams/developmental move.

If Pregnon is there for the pick - I think we take him.
Our offensive line sucked last season.
We need to protect our QBs and give Jeanty a chance to run.
Once we can protect our QB - then draft for some weapons like a WR

Regarding Pregnon, the last interior offensive lineman we took from Oregon (JPJ) appears to be a solid back up type rather than a Pro Bowl type. I remember the celebration that we got first round talent in the second round. Pregnon may not be worth a high second.
Taking McDonald would be a solid move. I like him over Hunter because McDonald has an NFL ready body and is a better athlete. WR Boston - would like someone like him in a later round. Is he that much better than Thornton who I think will emerge with our new QBs.

Nope to anyone in the 2nd that's coming off of a knee injury, may or may not need another surgery on the knee and hasn't played in a year

cb is a need and a PREMIUM position that needs to be invested in, mccoy would be consensus #1 cb in this draft minus his injury, getting him in the 2nd rd is a gift
kids on target to play this yr and his injury is more then a yr old already

No way should we not take Pregnon (or any player) based on the lack of success from others we previously took from the same school. If that was the case, we would have to draft kids from high school based on our track record. The book is not closed on JPJ. I would add that Pregnon is going to be a BEAST.
