Tyler Lockett expected to sign today
I wasn’t happy with McDaniels turning Vegas into New England 2.0, Carroll and the GM making this Seattle 2.0

What are you talking about? We settled for Pete Carroll. Yes. I saw this outcome. So why would I want to keep him? Getting rid of him will help the team. So why would I want to keep him? He somehow made a bad team worse. So why would I want to keep him?Hellbound wrote: Mon Oct 27, 2025 10:07 am Cool....then we'll continue to see you post "this is what happens when you settle for a hc". It makes absolutely zero sense to preach that then turn around and the hc fired after one year

True when your owner is an illogical imbecile you get stuck with this. We are the envy of the league for a HC, brand new facilities, entertainment galore, no income tax, etc. but when your owner is a trust fund baby who never built anything you get bad decisionsOaktownonly wrote: Mon Oct 27, 2025 7:50 am The problem with firing Pete at the end of the season is that there is nobody who wants to coach this team. Who are we going to get? Everybody knows the Pete wasn't the first choice because the guys they wanted (whoever they were) didn't want to come to this dumpster fire.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't in favor of the hire. But the question is who wants to coach here?

Probably just insurance for injury, especially if we move Jacoby this week.

Wait.
If he sucks and is garbage then he won’t move the needle a single bit.
If he is still a very good player, by himself he will net us a few wins?
Dang, he’s either garbage or he isn’t right?

The signing shouldn't have happened period. It is a sign of a vain and desperate attempt to save a lost season.

You said it would net us......your favorite word of the last 48 months......"pyrrhic" victories.
However if he is as bad as most agree he is, then it should not move any needles.

You are one of the only people I read the posts of, I was reading this post and I was like this makes a lot of sense and then I saw the name and was like that's why. Also Jerry was 38 when he joined. And 42 when he retired. I don't think 33 ia too old to be a WR.Attyla wrote: Mon Oct 27, 2025 8:30 am OK fellas, let' not find a cliff over this one. It is not a horrible signing depending upon the player we move out to make the space. Lockett is not ancient, but that one injury I think has derailed his career. He adds a bit of depth and he is not taking someone's starting job if I read the tea leaves correctly. He may see some snaps but this is what we knew Pete was going to do. He was going to constantly tinker with the lineup and roster. Lockett may not be the player he was, and God knows he was never a number one, but he can contribute.
As for the younger players, I get it, you want to see what you got. But you also want to see them properly developed and not everyone "learns on the field." Sometimes you learn from the sidelines or on special teams of what have you.

The signing is a cheap deal so it is not eating up cap. It likely comes with very little guaranteed money and almost certainly with a contract we can get out from easily. Lockett is not that far removed from some fairly productive years. There is no vanity here, this is a coach who refuses to quit no matter what. And you know what, his failures aside, that is what you want from a coach. Lockett and Smith had a nice chemistry a few years back. But I do agree with you, it is certainly an attempt to save a lost season.
I know we have a group of guys around here that want us to toss in the towel for a higher draft pick. We get that every year. And why? Because we are losers every year. But I don't want a coach who thinks like a fan. I want a coach who continues to press. I don't buy into your view that there are wins that hold no value. Jobs are on the line with losing. Players and coaches all know that losing results in lost jobs and that is the reality. Careers are short enough without losing your job to losing. You claim to work in sports, if true you should know that. It may very well cost Smith his job. I doubt it costs Carroll, I could be wrong there, but it will likely cost his assistants some jobs if we do not turn it around. Meyers wants out over the mess and a lack of a new deal. He may be the very reason we are bringing in Lockett. Either way, someone is out to get Lockett. He was good once, now he will likely be a role player. Teams need those guys as well. And honestly, if we need another receiver, he was probably the best out there that was cheap and easy to sign.

There are wins with no value. We saw that in 2023 where AP's Pyrrhic victories cost us draft position, made us keep AP, and allowed Denver to land Nix. Now they are a playoff team and we are bumbling around with SeeNo. Meanwhile, all that "momentum" from the strong finish in 2023 evaporated in 2024.Attyla wrote: Mon Oct 27, 2025 12:14 pm Yea, no

Depends signed Lockett because he wants security blankets and to recreate Seattle. That isn't winning; winning is taking chances. He wants to pretend it is 2022 again.

Not surprised. Tyler Lockett was Geno's security blanket in Seattle. Lockett was the king of bailing Geno out on scramble drills.

What role does this serve except making Depends and SeeNo not suck their thumbs?

so the wins in 2023 had value. Maybe not to you, but they have value. Pierce got a job. That is value. Not lasting value but value none the less. It also allowed us to draft Bowers. That is value. Bowers falling to us is a player with generational talent. Will it change our fortunes? Maybe not but he is a Raider as a result of the wins. Again, and again you should know this if what you claim is true about your profession, no one but the fans want losses. The players want jobs as do the coaches. It is a final record driven business. The Real CK wrote: Mon Oct 27, 2025 12:28 pm There are wins with no value. Carroll is clearly in charge of the personnel, or at the very least, has too big a say in it. The roster now has six former Seahawks: Lockett, Smith, Stone Forsythe, Kyu Blu Kelly, Jamal Adams and Jon Rhattigan, and there's been very little production from this group.
While Carroll did not bring in Kelly, he's given him far too long a leash, and fans can only assume it is because of their prior relationship in Seattle. Smith has also been a travesty for the Raiders this year, and yet, he continues to start.

Poison value. It wasted a year with a worthless showboat in AP. Bowers is awesome. But you know is more awesome? A franchise QB. Bowers, without a franchise QB, is rims on a jalopy, as seen by last year's 4-13 record. Meanwhile, Denver went to the playoffs with Nix. But hey, we beat Denver in the final game of 2023, allowing them to jump us in the draft rankings. Hang the banner!Attyla wrote: Mon Oct 27, 2025 12:47 pm so the wins in 2023 had value. Most coaches are myopic. It is why good leaders in my profession exist above them in the hierarchy to focus on the big picture. Most of them are not any more insightful than fans. I have worked with plenty that are absolutely clueless but interviewed well or graduated from the school. They just chose to enter the field instead of going into banking or real estate. College athletics is a different beast without drafting, so the whole angle about jobs doesn't relate.
