One post mentions a certain media outlet and another mentions a certain politician.Attyla wrote: Mon Mar 16, 2026 3:09 am Back on subject, I doubt it was part of the pitch, and I doubt it was much of a factor.
And this went highly political fast
Other than that it stayed surprisingly very civil compared to past threads.
I agree with your assessment that it isn’t likely part of any pitch one way or the other
Edit: For those that wish to jump into politics, Raiders discord chat in “Off Topic” is a free for all lol

Another one is Roger Staubach.

I think it’s a bigger deal than people here are saying. In the NHL some fans make it sound like a big deal and an unfair advantage, and want the league to make changes. The commissioner has heard the complaints and so far refuses to try and change things.
I don’t think it gives a team a huge unfair advantage, but it’s definitely an advantage and can help.
Of course if an organization isn’t run well then it doesn’t matter, but a well run organization can use it to their advantage.
Here’s info from one article last summer:

Here’s info from one article last summer:
https://www.thesportingtribune.com/2025 ... june022025“And one maneuver the tax-free six uses in luring potential free agents is the fact that if you play for us, your salary goes a lot further than say, New York or California or Canada.
From Day One, the Golden Knights have emphasized the fact Nevada doesn’t have a state income tax for its residents. They never hid from the fact. Rather, then general manager and now team president George McPhee used it as a major selling point among others, including the temperate winter climate in Southern Nevada. It’s something Kelly McCrimmon, the current GM, always cites in making a case for prospective UFAs considering the Knights.”
“When Jack Eichel was traded to Vegas by Buffalo in 2021, he went from a tax bill of 10.9 percent to zero because he now resided in Nevada instead of New York.Since becoming a Golden Knight, Eichel, who makes $10 million and is coming up to the final year oof his eight-year deal, saved over $4 million by working in Nevada compared to New York. And you can bet that when McCrimmon sits down with Pat Brisson, who is Eichel’s agent, to hammer out a new deal, he’ll remind Brisson of that fact.
And he’ll do the same when it comes time to talk to Darren Ferris, who is Marner’s agent.“

From another article:
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/veg ... 2ad8002bd1And if he looks at it this way, the Vegas Golden Knights would have a big leg up on the Anaheim Ducks, two teams that have been repeatedly rumored as favorites to land Marner…
If that's the deal Marner signs, he'd lose $13 million over the life of the contract playing in California for the Ducks. There'd be no such loss playing in Vegas for the Knights.
There's an additional way to look at this, too.
Marner could actually have a team like Vegas pay him even $10 million less in total value, which could then be used to sign other players, and still actually earn more money, because he wouldn't lose anything via income tax in the state.
Certainly, money isn't everything for someone who is choosing between $87 million or $100 million. But it also can't be looked at as nothing.
Marner will be weighing hockey situations, like coaches and teammates and history.
But if it's a close call, state tax could legitimately matter here. Because when you're getting a record-setting contract like Marner, it's quite the difference.

Yeah I don't want to share my opinion because it sucks on this as I have no idea who's losing FA's over taxes.
So just let the raw factual #'s speak:
4 States with no state tax who have NFL teams.
TX, FL, TN, NV
We'll add in WA since they weren't and won a SB.
8 teams
Last 20 years 2 Super Bowl Wins.
Rest of the states have tax, 24 teams, 18 Super Bowl Wins.
Has there been any complaint by a team that can't compete because of taxes?
Even if so the raw #'s seem to say there's nothing to worry about.
The WA article talking about it, is because they don't know a life with a state tax and un-needingly worry about it, it will be ok.
Jack Echel signed a 108 million dollar contract. Saved 4 million being in Vegas, nothing to sneeze at for sure. But was he really thinking of that money at that time of signing? Did he have an near equal offer in a taxed state? And if he did, the small % doesn't break a system.
What are some Raiders FA examples of the one's we got due to no taxes in LV and some that got away when we were in Oakland over taxes?
I am not against teams having an adjusted cap based on state income tax, that would take any doubt out of it.

its a tie breaker for guys/agents...end of the day if that team has a chance to win it all, a player will sign with em over a few bucks more but if both situations are the same then more money in the pocket is the winner

Don't forget that players (of any sport) that live in a state without income taxes have to pay the states in which they play in (on the road) -- so half of the games they play are "taxed." But, they do save on some taxes if they live in a Nevada.

One major factor is our team has been managed terribly. This team has had a tax advantage but other things that are more important have brought this team down anyway, like botching several 1st round picks.SkullCrusher wrote: Mon Mar 16, 2026 4:52 pm

The Dallas Cowboys have struggled to win since Jerry Jones decided he wanted to be a gm.
This topic has been a bigger deal lately in the NHL because 5 of the last 6 champions have been from states with no income tax (Tampa won twice in a row, Vegas won once, Florida Panthers won twice in a row). But there’s no reason to think that will continue and that didn’t happen in the previous decade.

There are only 7 states that dont have a state income tax and only 5 have an NFL team for a total of 8 teams. Ten, TX, FL, NV and WA. Compared to a state like NY or CA where the rate is 10%, a player making 30 million APY loses an extra 1.5 million per year by playing there.Hellbound wrote: Sun Mar 15, 2026 7:51 pm I think it's a bit overrated. Several other states have it so it's not unique to Nevada. Is it a factor? Sure, but I don't think it's the first thing any player thinks of
