But nobody is doing that. We are discussing the situation. The "fan police" thing is not happening.

...after having just looked for the first time, I see that we are tied with Tennessee and the browns for the probability of 'earning' the 1st pick. ...not sure how it works out if we all lose out, when comparing the 3, but it certainly does make sense to not play top future contributors who are injured, if nothing else., and to also see what we do, or do not have, with the kids.
....if this is finally the year that we have a possible top pic, and a legitimate potential 'franchise qb' there for us, it would be a bone crusher to not get the #1, and end up getting the next best, or wherever other plan b, as it appears that those who pay far more attention to the college games than I do, seem to identify one QB above others.

Carson wasn't past his prime, in fact he was younger than Rich Gannon was when he signed with the Raiders. Carson also played like an MVP candidate in 2015.

Rich was also past his prime when we started him, he was just well rested.

Using Rich Gannon as the model for future team building is going to lead to a whole lot of Geno Smith type moves before we find another Gannon (and possible we never find another like him).

Gannon was unique. He was an athlete far more than a QB. But he wanted to be a QB We got him past his prime, there is no doubt. 33 about to be 34. By any standard, that is past his prime. That does not mean a player past their prime cannot excel. But time does not care.

But back to Gannon, he was an athlete. But all those stops along the way, all that training. By the time we got him, his determination to be a QB and not just an athlete got us what we got to see. They are extremely rare. McNair was another, a guy who was an athlete who just wanted to be a QB. They don't exist these days.

We need a young QB who can come in and learn to be a Raider. We need a coach who can coach that into him.

While I like Joe Burrow, he is not the answer. Joe knows it as well. He has a no trade clause so he gets to decide. And Cinci is not giving up on their guy. Cinci will figure it out with Joe. I doubt they allow a trade demand sway them.

As for finding Gannon? Better chance of finding Bigfoot.

Gannon was a badass. The years watching him play were great. I always felt like we could win with him. Haven't felt like that since.

I just don’t like Burrow as a person. His pompous and arrogant attitude just rubs me the wrong way. I know that can actually be a benefit in terms of confidence etc, it just bugs me. I guess that dismissive and arrogant post game press conference after our loss to them in the playoffs stuck with me too much. My problem, not his. If we do end up with him I’d be cheering him on of course, just don’t like him.

I was ecstatic when we got Gannon. It seemed like every time we played KC we would hurt Grbac and Gannon would come in and beat us. So glad when we got him.

Maybe the only time Gruden got his QB right, and kudos to Al for signing off on it because that meant cutting Jeff George and his big arm loose. Buying QB's as opposed to raising them has been the Raider's m/o. We got it right with Lamonica, Plunkett, Hostetler, and Gannon. We failed miserably with the likes of Jeff George, Matt Schuab, Errol Flynn, Aaron Brooks and the other clowns I am missing, Geno...

The fact that Phillip Rivers is coming out of retirement is a perfect example of thin the free agent QB situation is. I like Rivers by the way, I hope he is successful.

But it was not low risk. Davis had gotten Jeff George, a QB in his style of offense. Gruden wanting Gannon over George could well have backfired and resulted in his termination. Let's be honest, Davis had a very short fuse for error. Gruden took a big chance and it paid off. The only way in which is was low risk was cost, but it was high risk for job stability for a young head coach who had gone 8-8.
