Just clarifying that Coleman never invoked the Tuck Rule when he made the call - he said "the QB's arm was going forward" after the review. That was a different rule than the Tuck Rule. The Tuck Rule wasn't invoked until about 24 hours later in an attempt to cover up Coleman's mistake.

Neither rule applied to the situation, however:

- Brady's arm was not going forward
- Brady had two hands on the ball and the tuck was completed
- The ball did not come out because it slipped in the process of a throw or a tuck, Woodson knocked it out.

Super Bowl or not, Gruden layed down and gave the game away. It should have never came to the Tuck Rule.

If we win that game we might never have heard the name Tom Brady again. Or things might have different Bledsoe goes into training camp as the starter? Sure Brady was starting even after Drew came back but who knows how it shakes out.

The point being is if you change one thing, history u fold differently.

I always wonder how guys like David Carr and Drew Bledsoe feel about their rings. Both have one, but do they feel like the earned or deserve their rings?

Probably two ways: cool I got a ring, also sucks I wasn’t the starter.

I think you feel good about getting a ring if you feel you contributed to the season in some way.

The Steelers would have been tough for that team, and I think the Rams would have been damn close to impossible. The Raiders were good that year, but not deep in the secondary - I don’t think we could have contained the Rams three receivers. The Pats did have the DBs to match up, and were the only AFC team, IMHO, that could have won the SB that year, even if they weren’t necessarily the best team, per se.

I been on one championship team and was a bench player (basketball). Yep I was still happy and pretty proud, but always gave credit and knew which players made it possible. My part was more of keeping the vibe strong team wide, my points weren't critical at all. Sure it would feel different if I were the man, but still satisfying as a team member.

I also was on a winless team (football) and we still tried each game, didn't have morale issues, we prepped for each opponent to our best ability, it wasn't that bad. You give it what you can and you can live with it, so many moving parts with football as to why outcomes happen.

I don't know if we would've beaten Pittsburgh the following week. I tend to think not. However, we'd earned the right to find out. I really don't think we'd have beaten the Rams in the Super Bowl, but we should've had the the opportunity to find out.

My heart doesn't break for Pittsburgh, but they shouldn't have been playing New England the following week. The Rams shouldn't have playing New England in the Super Bowl.

We beat the Pats on their home field in a blizzard, so who's to say what would've happened after that?

It was a bullshit call then, and it will always be a bullshit call now. The rules required overwhelming visual evidence that a wrong call was made. All the film and the stills show that the call on the field was correct. Nothing about that has changed.

Again, I am more upset with Gruden then the call. That douche put us in that position. You never want to put your future in the hands of the refs and it should have never came down to that. We dominated that game. Fans were leaving in droves. Fans were screaming that they wanted Bledsoe to replace Brady. Crazy that we lost.

Gruden was in love with "named games" and you can only have those in close/crazy games.

I was on a firefighters soccer team in my county for a few years and we competed in the annual “Firefighters Olympics” every summer. We practiced all year and played in various adult leagues but the big games were the Olympics. One year I was with the team all season but when the Olympics came, rules were changed as far as eligibility. At the time I was a “reserve” firefighter and not full time yet. I was told I couldn’t participate. I traveled with the team and they got silver that year. The team awarded me with one of the medals. I felt honored that my teammates felt I belonged and deserved one but I never once believed I earned it. Today, 30 years later, I have no idea where it is and I don’t care.


On another note, I can’t remember why but I felt with every fibre of my being we would beat the Steelers. I had no doubt. None. Anyhoo, ancient history.

We've all had every fiber in our bodies be wrong, especially with betting.
Yeah I never took us beating Pats meant superbowl bound or win, just a robbing in the moment and pretty good upset stolen.

Gear shift:
I believe Jett had a TD in that game for us, he was hated while he played by fans but watching various vintage Raider highlight packages, he shows up often and we over-scrutinized him.
