Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

I say it is time to but the rookies in both Rogers & Grant are road graders

Miller has to stay but outside that it might be time to re-jig everyone else

LT - Kolton Miller
LG - Caleb Rogers
C - Will Putnam (an actual C)
RG - JPJ
RT - Charles Grant

That line opens up lanes but they all need work in the passing game but are strong run blockers, if we open up lanes for Jeanty then the pass blocking becomes a little easier.

We’ve seen snippets of what the offence can do when given time create more space with the run & we’ll be able to pass

I can live with the OL playing bad if we are blooding rookies & second year players

This is on the O-line coach especially. Those guys dont know what to do out there and they arent talented enough make up for not being prepared.

Are we really REALLY blaming Pete's f[raiders_icon]cking son for our O line?!?! Look what he has to work with! There are 3 people to blame for our O line...Mark Davis, John Spytek and Pete Carroll. Nobody else.

Is there any word about JPJ? Was he hurt or benched? I will be pissed if he was benched, especially since Parham is the guy that should be removed (and released).

...it would seem like the most logical move to hopefully provide the quickest relief. ...I honestly believe that we have enough talent on the team to field a decent o line, even if some of the young guys have to be put in before they were hoping to .

Pete thought Cappa was the guy to start….something about short week ; JPJ was held out last week to a concussion injury so maybe JPJ did not get any reps in…

I don't mind some nepotism for a low level position like with Deuce Gruden or Pierce's son. If it's an important coaching position like Oline coach, then whoever you hire has to be someone you're willing to fire. Pete should not have hired his inexperienced son in this role. I guess you can just unofficially have Philbin be your oline coach and Pete's son can just be an assistant, but that's not the way to run a unit. The oline was not great last year but it was better after Philbin took over from Cregg and has largely the same personnel this year with disastrous results.

I agree with OP that changes need to be made, but I don't agree with the prescription.

First off, Charles Grant is not a magic antidote. DJ Glaze isn't even the problem right now. He might be the best run blocking OL out there right now. He had a bad sack against Von Miller, but has been otherwise solid in pass pro previous weeks. He's a 2nd year player and probably the most consistent linemen we have after Kolton right now. Let the kid develop....also I think Forsythe is the backup not Grant. So I don't see this happening at all.

JPJ needs to go back to center. He was an All American there his junior year and won the Rimington tropy for being the best center in college football. His sophomore year when he played guard he only started one game. The offensive line will go as the center goes. Meredith is playing tentative, having to concentrate on not only making the right line calls, but having to actively focus on his shotgun snap as it's not second nature for him to do so. By extension the rest of the line is playing tentatively and as if they have no clue what to do. Play JPJ at his natural position. PERIOD.

We are stuck with Dylan Parham until the end of this season. It sucks but the replacement might be worse, as Caleb Rogers looks like he needs a full year in an NFL strength and conditioning program before he's trusted with protecting a QB, and Cappa is cooked. Lucky for us, we have Parham's whole career worth of tape to tell us he is absolute trash at LG. Who would have guessed! Move him back to RG where he might be serviceable. And have Meredith play where he was doing okay last year, LG.

The coaching staff needs to admit their experiment has failed. The OL was bad last year. They decided to change guys positions to see if it would help. It's worse this year. It's time to stop the bleeding and put guys back to where they're comfortable, and hope you can salvage this season before things get out of hand.

Yeah outside of Miller & JPJ, there's nothing but back ups at best starting. There's nothing to work with and quite frankly, I don't think switching coaches is going to matter much. It was horrible last year too. It needs alot more talent and should've taken priority over a f[raiders_icon]cking rb being picked. That pick has Pete written all over it. Im also not sure just how good Jeanty is. He got shut down when they played good competition at Boise

He's in the doghouse with this staff for some reason. Maxx even pointed out something about his maturity and/or work ethic from last year

Meredith graded well as a guard last year. He was enjoying a breakout season. Moving him to center was asking too much. He should be starting in place of Parham. If something is not broken you don't fix it.

This is exactly right. And it's the exact moment I lost trust in the staff. I gave them the benefit of the doubt with the draft picks but that looks to be wrong on my part. But this nonsense with putting a guy at center who never played it before and then coming up with a lame excuse that JPJ can't make the calls? Ridiculous.

JPJ isn't really a center either. As I previously stated he played mostly right guard in college. W. Putnam is a real center and should be given the opportunity to start.
