It would be moronic to send cash under the table when there's a legal way to do it. If the Browns want cash then they get it from Schwartz. The Raiders could pay Schwartz more to offset that buyout. Regardless, we don't know for sure that Schwartz is even Kubiak's first choice.

Seems like not a lot of Seattle coaches are coming after all.

Players often like "players coaches." They rarely take a team to championship caliber. This is why players should have very little input with the process-exception being someone like Joe Montana or Tom Brady who typically prefer a hard ass.

Schwartz would be a good call; but if things start going wrong early in the season; do the fans start demanding that Schwartz be made head coach and take over….that the problem when you already got a OC or DC that was a HC once….

Might be better to get a no name DC
I don't believe that would be a problem for a number of reasons. I think Schwartz may turn into a Dick Lebeau type elder statement of defensive coaching. Plus, he seems to have team oriented personality.

You all act like Leonard would only get the job because of Maxx. No the dude is in consideration because he’s a great coach and also knows what they have in house on defense. It’s a bonus it would appease the Crosby situation, and Crosby’s not advocating for him. Because of those 3 factors, I think he will be the choice.

Zach Orr and Pats QB coach denied interview requests for D/O coordinator. If someone denies a request does that fulfill the rule? You interview Pleasant, Orr denies the interview.. f[raiders_icon]ck, I'd just call that good and hire who you want from there. No wasting anyone's time

A candidate actually needs to be interviewed to fulfill Rooney requirements.

The number of people declining requests leads me to believe that it's possible that people believe the Raiders already have a preferred candidate in mind and that they are tired of being a Rooney interview.

Also, on the DC side, being the Raiders' DC in 2026 might not lead to a great line on your future CV. There's a dearth of talent on that side of the ball.

I tend to take what Florio says with a grain of salt. He also had us hiring Flores as a HC. We didn’t even interview him.

This new guy Covington that they're interviewing is not a first timer. His one year as a DC was not a good one statistically for the team defense that he was coaching. If we don't get Schwartz or somebody with more experience then we might end up with Covington.
