The Las Vegas Raiders used the No. 1 overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft on Fernando Mendoza. With a new rookie quarterback joining the roster, the organization should be going all in to develop the former Indiana Hoosier. Shortly after the draft concluded, superstar edge rusher Maxx Crosby claimed he had already spoken to Mendoza and revealed his plan to help him grow in the NFL.

In the latest episode of “The Rush” with Maxx Crosby, the 28-year-old edge rusher explained how excited he is to have Mendoza as a teammate. Crosby revealed he reached out to the Raiders' rookie on draft night, and opened up about the advice he plans on giving Mendoza as the summer unfolds.

“I know everybody's fired up that he's part of our team now,” said Crosby about Mendoza. “I had the chance to have a great conversation with him when he came on his visit. I got to chop it up with him a little bit, and then on draft night, got on FaceTime and talked to him.


“We've been texting back and forth ever since. I'm really fired up for him, excited to take him under my wing and help him out, show him the way, and just encourage him to be himself and lead in his own way,” continued Corsby. “So, fired up for him and his family. I know it was a big moment.”

While Crosby aims to help mentor the 2025-26 Heisman Trophy winner, the Raiders have seemingly already done a good job of building a foundation for Mendoza to succeed. While the roster still likely needs improvements, the Raiders' front office did sign Kirk Cousins to a five-year, $172 million contract (which works more like a one-year, $20 million deal).

Cousins can serve as a sort of extra quarterback coach with his 14 years of experience under his belt. He can also challenge Fernando Mendoza to perform his best from the very jump.

Bullshit.

I don't think so. I know for a fact that some don't like Maxx for the most stupid of reasons. I have zero problem with one of the most passionate Raiders in a long time getting some time with Mendoza to help out. Hell, I want Mendoza to get time with all the players who live being a Raider. You all saw that Tim Brown and Marcus Allen were there to greet him when he came through the door. Freddie B was there as well. Nobody got ruffled that those old timers were there to welcome him and not one of you guys would blink an eye if Marcus was intending to take Mendoza under his wing.

There is a reason that rational and fan do not coexist. And some who do not want Maxx around have the most irrational reasons for that. Hell, you yourself just threw out that you want him traded. Our best defensive player after a draft that got some key help for his game. Bottom line is, we are better as a team when Maxx is on the field. But some do not want us better, they want us to trade Maxx for some unknown.

Fernando Mendoza got approval from Raiders legend to wear No. 15

Fernando Mendoza will continue to wear his preferred No. 15 in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders, but only after obtaining permission from a franchise legend.

Mendoza wanted the blessing of former Raiders quarterback Tom Flores before wearing the number. Flores quarterbacked the Raiders to a win in Super Bowl IV while wearing the number.

While the Raiders do not officially retire numbers, and numerous players have worn No. 15 since Flores, Mendoza still sought approval.

“I had a good college career; I haven’t done anything in the NFL. So for him as an NFL legend, a Raider legend, for him to give me permission to wear the number 15 and represent Raider Nation, the Silver and Black and him, all in one, it’s an eternal blessing,” Mendoza told Paul Gutierrez of the team’s official website. “Every single day I’m going to have a commitment to excellence to make sure than I can live up to that standard.”

Flores told Gutierrez that Mendoza can do it all on the field, and that it would be a “privilege” for the quarterback to wear No. 15.

“He deserves my blessing,” Flores said. “Because if he’s not the real deal, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing.”

This is par for the course for Mendoza, who has done everything right since his emergence as a top NFL prospect. He never sets a foot wrong in public and his deference to Raider tradition, especially when it wasn’t even necessary, will only further endear him to the team’s fanbase.
