D+ we did not get our number one WR LOL

Actually, I like this draft, Spytek moved around a lot and got us some nice pieces. We did not get everything but it feels like Raiderland Christmas.


So let's see those overreaction grades. I know, I know, you cannot grade a draft for 3 years. Boo f[raiders_icon]cking Hoo. Lighten up Francis and grade this glorious weekend.

Mendoza by himself does not get us an A but the rest of the group certainly has to impress when put together. McCoy if he heals up makes the robber barons of the draft.

And there will be UDFAs and post draft pickups and drops. Tyree is going, well eventually, I mean the door s 40 yards away so it will take some time.

Grade A- but if McCoy pans out the grade could change.

It’s getting an A imo. WR and NT are still question marks but it’s been awhile since I was only worried about two positions. I think the plan might be to rotate a bunch of guys in the middle and maybe before camp cuts we trade for a vet or pickup a released one. I don’t think we are as bad at WR, especially since I think most of the gameplan is gonna be run the ball and throw it to bowers. I really do think Bech steps up and who knows what Nailor will deliver with an expanded role. Gotta think WR1 will be round 1 next year.

Defensive wise it's pretty obvious that they are less than thrilled with our defensive backfield which really isn't a surprise seeing we were really thin going into the draft. Interesting how we wound up with both Arizona safeties. McCoy is a major wild card. If Masses fills a role that would be a big get. Guess I shouldn't be surprised at the Crawford selection as they are probably going to put him in position to win matchups. With Crosby, Paye, Koonce and Crawford they are going to want to put the heat on QB's to help out our back end. Pegues will be tasked with the NT position? That's what I'm guessing. Still to come is the waiver wire for the younger guys and we have first dibs on those. Then there is veteran cuts.

Offensive wise we drafted what we hope is our QB of the future. I see they already listed his number as 15. Would love to see him come in and just wrestle the position away from Cousins. Zuhn is a very interesting selection as is the whole riddle as to what the OL will end up being. Zuhn can play any position on the line, so looking forward to where he ends up. Where they envision Rogers, Buford, Grant, Glaze, Meredith and the rest is going to be is arguably the biggest story of camp.

Wide receiver core seemed like less of a priority we'll have to wait and see if they bring in a castoff from another team. I would love to see Benson pan out but I'm not optimistic he can do so as a rookie. The addition of Washington was a signal to the rest of the league we are going to run the ball first and foremost and/or always have the threat of it. Whether it's Jeanty or Washington teams will be forced to honor the run on pretty much every down.

Including UDFA's we currently sit at 31 new players on the team and zero reservations more to be added though waivers and veteran cuts.

This draft lives and falls with Mendoza. If he’s half the player we hope him to be it’ll be a A+ plus draft even if every other guy is out of the league in five years. That’s what it is when you have the first draft pick.

Loved the Washington pick and having the stones to swing on McCoy.

Would have liked to see us add more linemen on both sides of the ball. Specially the o-line where I’m not as high on Glaze and Grant as some others.

And like I wrote before, our coaches hated that defensive back room. I expect some cuts there soon.

Beyond the grades and discussion, the best part of this thread is how badly our resident punching bag is getting, well, punched.

To tell you the truth; every raider fan highlights of the season is free agency and the draft; and then we build up this bubble that get so huge we are talking Superbowls and dynasty until we actually play our first game and then it goes on to firing our HC before we play our second game…..

Thought the raiders should have taken Boston who was available with the second pick; also thought they should have gone NT or DT or OT if not Boston….

Hope the draft really works out but after the first round pick lately; most of the 2nd rounders and the rest of rounds tend to disappear after a few seasons

Just adding to this. Look at how far and wide Spytek and Co. cast their net. The draft may not have made my wee heart happy by picking every player I did when doing mock draft simulators, but of course that doesn’t f[raiders_icon]cking matter. What matters is that Spy and the scouts put in the f[raiders_icon]cking work. This was a no-stone-left-unturned draft, not a Grudenesque dart board draft.
