I think the intent was to convert him to a safety. He was just another bad pick. If you read the article, you read where Gruden tanked film intentionally when he did not want a guy. No wonder he was epically bad. As bad as the old man was at times, he gave Gruden a pretty good lineup. He made it even better for Callahan. Too bad it did not pay off.

My opinion of Gruden: I think he is a good coach.... if that's all he has on his plate. He's not a great coach (way too conservative for me). He is a terrible judge of talent and should never have had the control that Mark gave him. I didn't want him back. Second go 'rounds never work out.

Conclusion: I like Gruden but... keep him away from my Raiders going forward.

He was a good coach if you were a veteran in the second half of your career. He was garbage if you were a rookie. He taught you exactly jack shit. Reading that article floored me. To think he was using film to show all the bad plays a prospect had if he did not want a player. Dear God how in the literal f[raiders_icon]ck he kept his job after all the shit in that article is beyond me.

So I read the article. It's pretty damning. I wasn't aware of all that went on. I still don't think he could evaluate talent worth a shit. The article just confirmed what most of us already knew.

The article shed some light on what was going on behind the scenes. If there ever was a more flawed coach, I do not know who it would be. I think we have seen incompetent coaches, but the guy wielded ultimate power because Doofus had his man crush and thought he was untouchable. And once the emails were released, he found out the league.....

I will pose the question, is the Doofus era literally as bad as the post Super Bowl years under the Old Man? I know we went to the playoff twice under Doofus but after reading this article, and I do not doubt the validity of the it, are both guys equally that bad as owners?

Look who he decided to stick with at QB no matter what when Brady was all but a done deal until Gruden pulled the plug. Tells

The fact that they had two separate draft boards is wild, Gruden and the coaches on one side, Mayock and the scouts on the other. Sources saying Gruden wasn’t even around on Day 3 pretty much confirm that Mayock was behind picks like Maxx, Hunter Renfrow, and Nate Hobbs.

Mayock was clearly a strong talent evaluator, his issue wasn’t scouting, it was running the front office, according to sources.

Then you’ve got Gruden’s “kill tapes,” where he’d cut together negative plays to discredit prospects the scouts liked. He also gave Tom Cable heavy influence, which led to picks like Alex Leatherwood.

And per sources they panicked and botched the first-round trade-down and still ended up taking Clelin Ferrell.

I remember hearing Chuckles say he was glad Leatherwood fell to them. Sadly, I truly think he believed that.

It is not an accident imo that we made the playoffs in 2021 after he was forced out.
