I'd argue removing a head coach of a competitive team mid season has disastrous consequences, the ripple effects of which can last for years. I didn't want Gruden 2.0 but I think some folks say ridiculous shit because they want to pound their chest and say they were right. The NFL tanking that season for the Raiders, and the suggestion that it was a good thing, qualifies as ridiculous shit.DanKD wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 11:22 am I'd argue the league did us a favor. Screwed gruden sure but it got us rid of Gruden and Carr. Without that I'm not sure Brady agrees to become part owner and we sign gruden to a new 10 year extension after his breakout 8-9 season

I agree that removing a head coach over a controversial series of events is not a good thing. I would further argue that until the court case is in session that we still do not know who leaked the emails. So until we know that, the person who tanked our season is also unknown. Hackers hack email servers all the time. I want the answer before I push the blame. Gruden will get his chance to make his case. I hope by then we are a playoff team and Davis keeps his f[raiders_icon]cking hand out of the cookie jar and let's the adults do their jobs.NoThanksSir wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 11:34 am I'd argue removing a head coach of a competitive team mid season has disastrous consequences, the ripple effects of which can last for years. I could be mistaken but I believe his take is a bit more nuanced that that.NoThanksSir wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 11:34 am I'd argue removing a head coach of a competitive team mid season has disastrous consequences, the ripple effects of which can last for years. Basically he’s saying if I read it right: in the long run we ended up better off where we are now.

why do you keep saying "i dont owe you a damn thing" nobody ever said anything about owing anything ???Attyla wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 11:28 am Again, I don't owe you a damn thing. And I don't watch money, I watch football. Your just a bit too obtuse for me to waste any more time on you.
ps you cannot separate money and football "its a business first " you need money to hire scouts/coaches, you need money to sign free agents and draft picks, everything about the game of football works because of having money

The fact that they had two separate draft boards is wild, Gruden and the coaches on one side, Mayock and the scouts on the other. Sources saying Gruden wasn’t even around on Day 3 pretty much confirm that Mayock was behind picks like Maxx, Hunter Renfrow, and Nate Hobbs.
Mayock was clearly a strong talent evaluator, his issue wasn’t scouting, it was running the front office, according to sources.
Then you’ve got Gruden’s “kill tapes,” where he’d cut together negative plays to discredit prospects the scouts liked. He also gave Tom Cable heavy influence, which led to picks like Alex Leatherwood.
And per sources they panicked and botched the first-round trade-down and still ended up taking Clelin Ferrell.

Yes. Long term, the franchise needed to move on from Gruden to have any shot at sustained success. This expedited things and certainly led to some disastrous seasons to follow but we are hopefully finally on the right track now.Willmark wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 11:53 am I could be mistaken but I believe his take is a bit more nuanced that that.

No team with Gruden making roster decisions will have any amount of sustained success. Gruden was largely responsible for the team being so bad for the next couple years following his release. He is actually a good motivator which has the actual talent of the team overachieving but we were so barren of talent all along the roster due to Gruden.

Summerall, “Good evening, everyone. From a packed Allegiant Stadium tonight, we bring you a matchup unlike any other, the Coins against the Cash. Two teams, two styles, one game that promises to be unforgettable.”
Madden, “Yeah, and you look at these two teams, Pat, it’s like watching two different kinds of money fight it out. The Coins, they’re tough, they’re durable, they’ve been around forever. You drop ‘em, they make noise, they get noticed. And then you’ve got the Cash, smooth, fast, they can fold, they can stack, they can move through defenses like paper through a wallet!”
Summerall, “Both sides have their strengths. The Coins rely on grit and grind, while the Cash bring speed and finesse. It’s tradition versus flexibility, and tonight we’ll see which one comes out on top.”
Madden, “And here’s the thing, Pat, when you put these two together, you don’t just get a football game, you get a financial rumble! It’s clink versus crinkle, jingling versus folding, and I can’t wait to see who’s left standing when the final whistle blows.”
Summerall, “Kickoff is moments away. Stay with us, Coins versus Cash, coming up next.”

Here is the team’s value vs. the product on the field, i.e., the football team.mstrbass2000 wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2026 1:59 pm thats the entire problem with your responses ...nobody is talking about mark cashing in or not, the responses were franchise related in other words raider related ...your the one making it mark davis related (personal) !!!! going from last (poorest) to 3rd helps the raiders in all facets including football related, you need money to sign good quality coaches, free agents and draft picks
ps here you go again with personal attacks again (crayons comment) you just cant help it, can you
2011, $761M, 8–8
2012, $785M, 4–12
2013, $825M, 4–12
2014, $1.0B, 3–13
2015, $1.43B, 7–9
2016, $2.1B, 12–4 (Oakland Coliseum)
2017, $2.4B, 6–10
2018, $2.9B, 4–12
2019, $3.0B, 7–9
2020, $3.1B, 8–8
2021, $3.4B, 10–7
2022, $5.1B, 6–11
2023, $6.2B, 8–9
2024, $6.7B, 4–13
2025, $7.7B, 3–14
There are owners with a worse winning percentage. Two of them. David Tepper, .310, bought the Panthers for 2.275B, the Panthers are now valued at 5.9B. Jimmy Haslam, .333, bought the Browns 987M, now worth 4.6B. For curiosity’s sake, the Cowboys who are the NFL’s highest valued franchise at 13B, won their last Super Bowl while valued at 272M.
An NFL team’s value rising is an inevitability. In fact, no NFL team has lost value in the modern era (since 1970). As you can also see, a team’s value has no correlation whatsoever with the product on the field, the football team, wins and losses, which in my opinion as a football fan are the important parts of my relationship with a football team.
I am not without hope though…

Gruden was a good coach and a bad GM. It was obvious after Tampa Bay. Crazy that Mark Davis couldn't see that and put guardrails in place. Too much with kill tapes and two draft boards. Damn.
Hopefully we're on to better days.
