The vet minimum this year is 1.3M, which the Jets agreed to pay in negotiations with his agent. The Raiders said you were going to pay it anyways, so just guarantee he goes to the Jets, we'll swap picks.
If we cut him, we would owe him the entire 18.5M, regardless of what he signed for elsewhere.

This is a solid move by the Jets. They clearly saw what he did for the Raiders and are hoping lightning strikes twice. As long as he’s healthy, they are guaranteed the 1st overall pick in 2027.

Getting anything in return for Geno is a major win. This is a rare win-win-win-win scenario.
Geno likely ends up with some more money than he would have with an outright release because if it were an outright release then he'd have just ended up playing for the vet minimum.
The Raiders get to swap a 7 for a 6 - essentially zeroing out the cost of the Taron Johnson trade.
The Jets get the first overall pick in 2027.
Aaron Glenn gets to sit on the couch in 2027 and get paid millions to do it.
