The Offensive Line Coach Thread
As we just saw with the departure of Brennan Caroll under the latest Raiders regime- Offensive Line coach is critical. So much so, I’d argue after the OC (or in our case HC/OC combo) it’s the most crucial position coach on the offensive staff. (Maybe QB Coach too)
We can’t get Bill Callahan and Dante Scarneccia (formerly of NE) is retired. Who else is out there? Quick aside- Dante pieced together offensive lines in NE with spit, glue, rubber bands and duct tape and they won Super Bowls.
I’m also off the mindset this hire might matter even more than DC. We’ve got a lot of pieces for the offensive line that I believe were simply used or not instructed on why they wanted them to do last year.
We’re not talking best line ever in the history of the game, but I think we can take a huge step forward from what we saw last year with the right coach.

The only thing I'll disagree with (and most everyone else) is JPJ. The type of recurring injury that he's had/has can't be repaired. It's not his fault and it sure as hell isn't due to ability, but this type of thing doesn't get better, especially for a player that hits and gets hit on every single play. Also, it's a poorly kept secret that both players and coaches will put a guy on the field they know shouldn't be out there, which indicates that his condition is likely more severe than we can know. At best he should be depth because constantly having a backup rotate in for X number of games while the starter with a brain injury waits to get back on the field creates a revolving door that consistently unsettles the O-line.chucker wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 1:51 pmMy preference is to give JPJ and Rogers the opportunity to win starting jobs. Thus I'd prefer to pay either Linderbaum or McGovern to hold down the center spot.
I don't know who should replace him, but through no fault of his own, he can't be relied on.

I think we can afford to have that injury risk at guard, but not at center. I like his athleticism and his attitude. I don't understand why he wouldn't be wearing a Guardian Cap.Opoponax50 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 7:57 am The only thing I'll disagree with (and most everyone else) is JPJ. He was good at times with Raiders before, but not always consistent. Hes better now and a really good pass blocker.- These users gave a High Five to the author powski for the post:

Revisiting this on the verge of FA. Here's how I'd do it for 2026:
LT- Miller we need to address longer term but that might be a 2027 need.
LG- Rogers
C- Linderbaum, back up the truck for him and pay him
RG- JPJ
RT- FA and this might be surprising as to who I'd target? Taylor Decker. Obviously not a crazy long term; 2-3 years.
Also I want Parham as far from the Raiders as possible.
Overall- We going to need to keep addressing longer term if we go this route but Grant looked decent in his limited looks last year too.

I think you take Ioane at 14 and that line looks much better. I can't trust Rogers starting in front of a rookie QB just yet. But yes, RT is a huge need too.Willmark wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 5:29 pm Revisiting this on the verge of FA. Here's how I'd do it for 2026:

I'm usually a bit gun shy at taking Guards in the first unless they are out of the park players. I know Ioane is making a lot of buzz right now and a lot of mocks have just updated to us taking him. Again not against it per se but Guard is the easiest position on the line and the easiest to replace. Note when I say easiest I mean that in the sense the others are an order of magnitude tougher.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 5:39 pm I think you take Ioane at 14 and that line looks much better. IMO? That complicates it. Were back to either JPG or Meredith.
I don't know enough to say about the draft this year for centers. From a quick glance the highest ranked is Hecht of Kansas State at #56 I cant see us going going Mendozza, (Ioane) then Hecht in three successive picks.

I would sign a vet guard - not a top of market guy but someone decent and older so he's neither expensive or long term. That would be my general process were we have a young guy we'd like to see as the starter but don't want to risk getting our QB killed if he doesn't pick up the system. But, as opposed to last season, the staff has to be willing to put the young guy on the field if the competition is even close.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 5:39 pm I think you take Ioane at 14 and that line looks much better. The more I think about it I'm warming to the idea of Decker if we can land him. We're not talking about 5 years but 2-3.
That would mean our tackles? We have two dudes at? Miller 6' 8" and Decker at 6' 7" That's awfully tough to man handle on either end.

This is it! I'd love to sign Decker, Edwards or Johnson and Tiller...then draft other pieces and long term guys.Willmark wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 6:04 pm The more I think about it I'm warming to the idea of Decker if we can land him. We're not talking about 5 years but 2-3.

Better have some good quality backups for the right side of the line as neither one can stay healthy. Decker hasn't played rt since beginning days of college. He's been a lt since his Jr year so him switching might not be easy. He's also contemplated retirement the past couple of years and came close to doing so last yearWillmark wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 5:29 pm Revisiting this on the verge of FA.
