Raiders set to release QB Geno Smith after 1 season in Las Vegas

Should surprise nobody as he would be a horrible mentor for Mendoza. While Raiders fans should be eternally greatful that Geno was so terrible that the Raiders finally finished 32, this guy won't be missed. Raiders have had a lot of terrible QB's over the years but he's by far the least likeable of the lot. Whether he was on the sidelines looking dejected and mopy, or flipping the bird to fans, he came off extremely unlikeable and the fact is that he was one of the very worst QB's in 2025. Good riddance!

There were many others just as bad. Palmer refusing to restructure, T. Pryor, Donald Hollas and temper tantrums, and of course J. Russell.heavyD wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 8:17 am https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/708979 ... iders-nfl/

I think he is saying "amongst the worst (leaving room for those others) but the least likeable of the lot."MrSiani wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 8:50 am There were many others just as bad. Palmer refusing to restructure, T. Pryor, Donald Hollas and temper tantrums, and of course J. Russell.

I'm old enough to have watched the Raiders last Super Bowl victory. None of those QB's were bad enough to send the Raiders to last overall and none of them flipped off Raiders fans.MrSiani wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 8:50 am There were many others just as bad. Cant they restructure this years $26 million deal to make a trade palatable to some other team? Maybe a 13 million salary to bonus conversion would get our dead cap down to 13 and the acquiring team would only be on the hook for the other 13?

You may be surprised to know the other 31 teams all saw Geno play last year too. No one is trading anything for himCruisin with Tooz wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 9:01 am Cant they restructure this years $26 million deal to make a trade palatable to some other team? The Raiders wouldnt want anything of value. The value is less dead cap hit. Something like Geno+ our 7th round pick for a 7th round pick.DanKD wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 9:07 am You may be surprised to know the other 31 teams all saw Geno play last year too. No one is trading anything for him

Geno came into bad situation; I am sure he will sign with another team with a chance to be a starter….not saying he will be a starter; but a chance to compete for the starting job….

Maybe if you had a team with an offensive line that could hold up in pass protection for an eternity then he could be a good fit.DanKD wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 9:07 am You may be surprised to know the other 31 teams all saw Geno play last year too. No one is trading anything for him

Dead money is not an issue. And the 8M cap space is worth getting his butt off the teamCruisin with Tooz wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 9:01 am Cant they restructure this years $26 million deal to make a trade palatable to some other team? Exactly. Russell Wilson got offers too. Someone will want him either as a BU or a bridge. We should try to trade him, not for draft capital or a player, but for a better dead cap hit.
