NFL Combine - on field workouts start Thursday 2/26

Not much happens today at the Combine ........ but here's the schedule and we can report news and observations here.

Tek said he loves the interviews. He looks for excitement in the moment and the chance to talk a bit of football with the young guys. Said he knows it is a grind for the players because they might do 10 interviews in a day (almost two hours) but he enjoys hearing how the guys are excited to play for a team.

For what it is worth.

Even for a short meeting, it's great to meet someone face to face. It seems like treating those meetings with an air of entitlement cost Sanders last year, so the information can be helpful one way or another.

Bain is really an edge, his twitch and his speed off the snap are pretty outstanding. I would think he is going to be an edge if he goes as projected. I mean, certainly players can move around situationally but he is an edge. Arm length is a factor with a player who plays outside like that. How big, well it really depends on his other skills. Gallery for us had fairly short arms and that really did play into his poor play at the next level. They were about 2 inches longer than Bain's and I know they play opposite sides of the ball but both play the edge of the line.

Tricky to call but I would think Bain did not hurt his draft status with the measurement but I will also watch with interest how it plays out.

Genesis Smith met with Tek at the combine. Day 2 projection. fast rangy guy who can play up or back depending on needs.

D'Angelo Ponds also met with the Raiders. Day 2 guy as well. At least it looks like we are giving the defense a nod early on.

Edit, Ponds is a teammate of Mendoza's and he was high on the idea of being a continued teammate.
