We’ve talked him up for years. Let’s see if he can be the coach we think he can be. To be honest none of the candidates we’d been linked to felt like a home run so this is probably for best

I bet Cleveland releases him now that all DC positions are filled, that’s the type of petty crap crappy organizations do.

Or they don't release him, ever. His contract will just toll for another season and he'll still be under contract next year too. If they released him now then he could latch on with a team as a "senior defensive assistant". Maybe with a team in the AFC North.

Could be but I would think the NFL would step in if it got to that point, it would not be a good look for the league to tacitly condone holding a coach hostage.

I don't think the league would step in. Schwartz is under contract as DC and the Browns wanted him to stay and be their DC and get paid millions to do it. It's not cool and he might not be happy with that option, but it's not really a hostage situation.

Browns are well within their right to just hold him. Future coaches are also in their right to say no thank you to taking jobs with them.

Theres actually no upside to the browns not just letting him out of contract. We let Graham out of contract and coaches do take note.

I understand keeping a guy under contract so you prevent him from leaving for a division rival, but you should let him move otherwise. The Browns will feel some pain over this. That will pale in comparison to the pain of the Watson signing and of making Sanders their face of the franchise.

I'm very familiar with the Browns and their ownership. Other than not looking like a f[raiders_icon]cking clown, like our owner..... there aint much difference. The Browns franchise is more f[raiders_icon]cked up than the Raiders'. It doesn't seem possible, but trust me on this. :grimmace:

Schottenheimer placed a curse on them on his way out the door. Marty never placed a curse on us. He just kicked the living shit out of us for a decade. Sadly, Sheduer Sander's heroics will not overcome this. Mark my words they will hire Coach Prime and be in every news cycle every f[raiders_icon]cking week, but the results will stay the same. The Browns are basically f[raiders_icon]cked, pretty much forever.

We are about to embark on a new era.
