Trade Maxx. Yes or No?

First off, Mods, if this can be squeezed into the “Maxx Crosby” thread somehow, please do.

I’m genuinely curious. Based on posts it seems about 50/50, but we have plenty who visit and never say a word. Maybe they’ll vote though.

As to the details of a trade. Who knows? Maxx for draft picks. Maxx for a player and draft picks. Let’s just say it’s logically fair and equal, cause emotionally fair may not exist for some.

Hopefully, both parties (Max and the FO) keep things under wraps. If that is the direction they decide to go, it would help Max get to go to a team he desires while the Raiders can get a better return.

You're not going to keep it a secret that you're listening to offers and would consider a trade. But you certainly want to keep the source of any discord in-house. The reports are that most of the league is interested in trading for him. The offers would vary wildly, and for some teams cap space is an issue. For all teams it's going to be an issue that he can't pass a physical so patience is a virtue.

We all want to have issues resolved and decisions made early but you can't sacrifice value just to get an earlier decision. In a player-for-player deal, a post June 1 trade works a lot better for many teams in terms of managing cap space - and you cannot designate trades as being post June 1. They have to actually happen after June 1.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but when you trade a player, you receive compensation in the form of draft capital and/or more from the team you're trading X player to.

Haha, I think you're gonna have to get used to it. Comps is a reasonable term to use as short for compensation, and compensatory picks could be a subset of that. I'm just pointing out that I thought it was really obvious to me and I don't think people are gonna change. Best of luck but you're probably not gonna get your way on that one.

Is Max approaching that time in his career where he has his highest value just before we see undefeated age and mileage take its toll? If so, offers must be considered.

Or does the staff believe he has 3 great years left in him and he is an anchor of the defense? After all we all know, “good pass rushers are hard to find”.

Not being inside the building I have no idea how badly Max wants out or how badly he wants to stay.

I can't realistically answer. It depends. Is it possible that there's an offer worth it? Maybe. Is he going to play his ass off if he stays? Definitely. What the new coaching staff wants needs to play a big part in it too.

Compensation plays into this and direction they want to go does as well. He will play hard no matter what they decide. So, because we don't know anything, I am neutral on the subject.

I think it's the right answer. If someone offers to sell you a car, or buy your car or truck...... you can't say yes or no until you know the price. I guess there may be people who think Maxx is poison to the other players on the team but I don't believe that and I don't think his teammates feel that way. He's annoying to me, but I know he'll play hard.

While I agree the conversation came up during the interview, I’m not so confident a decision has been made. It’s more likely they will talk with Maxx and put feelers out for what value teams are willing to offer if in fact he does want out. However, even if he does want out, it’s not up to him. I say have professional conversations with him, don’t kiss his ass and at the end of the day, make the decision for what’s best for the team. I just don’t think it’s been made yet.

I’ve said it before, the problem is you would be getting rid of a trenches-player and you’d immediately need to draft/sign/build in the trenches once you do. It’s not exactly like drafting Clelin Ferrell but it is similar to that.

It would be different if he was a WR. I’d trade him in a second.

Then you add that Gym Shorts (and DCs of his caliber) has no incentive to come here when the defense has no proven commodities on defense.

Then there’s the crap shoot that is the draft. Who is to say we hit on any picks?

I’m about as 50/50 as it gets on this. I think I would lean more towards trading him and letting Spytek and Kubiak build this from scratch. Even then, I’d only be 51/49 on it. I still kind of long to see Maxx hold a Lombardi as a Raider.

Negative. Maxx is a drafted all time Raiders great and the current face of the franchise. He will possess all Raider defensive records and could end up in the Hall.

What are we going to get a couple late 1st round picks? Maybe a saftey and LB would do? You can grab those in fa.

When I say the came to a decision, it more than likely either Kubiak wanted to keep him so that is the direction they will go or Kubiak is open to a trade if they get good compensation.

I think it is likely that the basis of the direction was set in play during the interview process. We also have to agree that while Spytek is in charge, there are voices in the room who have a lot of say on these things including Kubiak and I imagine Brady and Davis to a degree.
