Why would Pierce blow your mind? Especially in year one of a rookie QB he’s everything you’d want in a WR, let alone in Kubiak’s system.

Not a diva, great hands/rare drops, disciplened route running, blocks well and will actually do it.

Note I’m not saying we will or should get him but I don’t see any downsides to him compared to a prima Donna like Pickens who the team does not need with tha baggage.

The numbers being suggested for him is where my mind starts to combust. People see his highlights and the single 1K yard season and want to commit. But he runs two routes. His stats last year is an extreme outlier. Guys don't regularly catch 45 passes for 1K yards. If he reverts to the average, he's a 700 yard guy. Not saying he holds no value, I just don't want to pay him 20 mill a year. We could have kept Jakobi at that price.

I think people are stuck on the "we need a #1 WR" mentality when its just not true in our situation. We are good with Brock and a bunch of 2s. I think Alec Pierce would be a great get at the right cost.

I think most high level offenses have two talented pass catchers. We have one. We don't need to go for broke this offseason, but I wholeheartedly disagree that Alec Pierce would be a great get. I'll plant my flag on that one and revisit it after this year.

If this thread has turned into a receiver thread, I can weigh in. In year one of a QB's career, his best friends are the TE's and a ball breaking RB. Close third is a good possession receiver. The game is typically too fast for him to stretch the field. Thornton is going to not get many looks at all but Bech very well could. Tucker also will likely get some good looks. We could roll with that core and be fine. I actually want another RB more. Get us a guy who can catch balls out of the backfield and who blocks.

But is receiver a priority? Not really.

If we miss out on Linderbaum, maybe look at Edwards and McGovern from the Bills as a package deal? They are used to played next to each other.

Linderbaum would be the single biggest improvement on the line and also the single biggest support we can give Mendoza to be successful player wise.

And if not Linderbaum we better have some high quality options in mind.

Linderbaum is definitely my first choice for O-line. But even if we outbid the Ravens for him, do things seem to be changing enough for the Raiders for him to want to come here?

The two teams in the super bowl dont have 2 better pass catchers than we have right now. The Pats don't even have 1 better than us. And that's without us adding anyone. JSN = Bowers. Kupp is old and Shaheed is a one trick pony as a pass catcher. One who is probably equivalent to Tucker. And the Pats have Diggs, who at this stage is nowhere near Bowers as a pass catcher.

I do believe we need to add someone, but a Pickens or AJ Brown or any other overpriced Alpha is completely unnecessary.

The main reason I originally brought up Pickens is because Kubiak’s heavy 12 personnel scheme is greatly assisted by having a WR who consistently beats his coverage. Puts the defense in a bind because if they commit to defending the run, they’ve basically left JSN wide open because he’s a good single coverage beater.

Brock is definitely our best coverage beater, and you make a good point about young QBs favoring TEs, so Brock being our best option can work as long complemented by a strong run game (I like Chucker’s Algeier suggestion). I also agree that a guy like Bech could really shine next year (aside from raiders, could be a steal in FF). One reason to love the Klint hire is that he seems to get the most out of his talent, and I think it’s fair to expect that will continue here on day 1.

But I do think we need to eventually get an elite WR to get the most out of Kubiak’s offense. His 12 personnel is so much more difficult to defend when the WR on the field is a tough matchup.

Can’t fill every hole in one year, and you’ve made a strong case as to why we should prioritize other positions first. And because we have a guy like Brock, we dont necessarily need to find the WR1 of the league as JSN arguably was last year. But whether it’s this year or next year, finding that top 10 wide receiver would make a big difference in the explosive plays KK is able to conjure

I would be happy giving Algeier a multiyear deal because he's still young. He's a good pass blocker, which is a big deal to me. He is also capable of carrying a load if Jeanty were ever injured and missed some games.
