And this is when I knew it was over—Bill King’s reaction makes it even betterAttyla wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 8:41 am My favorite game, the one that stands out, is SBXVIII. That day, we took our customary role as the underdog and killed the Redskins team that was supposed to bitch slap us into submission. Theismann was supposed to dominate us. Riggins was supposed to bulldoze us. Their offensive line was supposed to humiliate us. And then the whistle blew. And we unleashed hell. Joe was picked off twice, sacked six times and was harassed all game. Riggins got his score, but only once it did not matter. Marcus set a record that stood for almost three decades. It may have been our finest hour, certainly one of the most dominate performances in history. A game day program sits behind glass on my wall, having only been leafed through once.

The 2002 Raiders was like being in the bar at closing time, drunk, with a maxed out credit card and the girl you’re with looking like Kate Beckinsale when she was 28.
The next morning turned out to be very different.

As the old saying goes..."Defense wins Championships"...and I think Seattle's defense will be the difference.
Seattle wins by a comfortable margin.

Let’s hope so and it’s not a “re-Pete” of last time:raidersince63 wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 7:25 am As the old saying goes..."Defense wins Championships"...and I think Seattle's defense will be the difference.

* the best running back in football at the time on the one yard who just gained something like 7 yards on the last play.
* multiple downs to win
* the most mobile QB in the game at that time.
* Darth Hoodie blowing it by not calling a TO and clock running.
* passing into the heart of the defense on a slant…
Queue Bill Callahan: “we’re the dumbest team in America.”

The Hoodie had Butler ready for that look. Pete and Russ talked about clock management and sequencing the passes but it's a moot point when you have Lynch in the backfield, not to mention he was open on the fade on that same play which will not result in a pick if Wilson over throws it.Willmark wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 8:34 am Let’s hope so and it’s not a “re-Pete” of last time:

Kind of reminded me of Gibbs trying that screen to Joe Washington when Sumner had Squirek ready to jump the play.
I have never seen an offense mindfuck itself out of a win like that. My cousin was in a sports bar in Vietnam. Apparently there are quite a few Seahawk fans in the Pacific Rim and that place about burned itself down with the Vietnamese fans running into the street stopping traffic and doing all kinds of crazy mob shit. I wish he would have had his iPhone handy but he was busy having his own meltdown.

In all fairness, with the time remaining and timeout sitch, they couldnt run it 3 times. They could run on 2nd or 3rd down, but not both. Their choices were run, pass, run or pass, run, run on 2nd-4th down. They chose pass, run, run , I think, for the element of surprise, because everyone was expecting a run on 2nd down.Toast wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 11:49 am The Hoodie had Butler ready for that look. If there has ever been a dumber, “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” moment I’m hard pressed to think of one.Toast wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 11:49 am The Hoodie had Butler ready for that look. Single biggest blunder in pro football over the last 25ish years.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 12:25 pm In all fairness, with the time remaining and timeout sitch, they couldnt run it 3 times. 2nd and goal from the one, 20-25ish seconds left and Seattle with one timeout remaining? And they chose to run THAT play?
Marshawn just got 4 the previous play. Afterwards they used the “everyone on planet earth knew we’re going to run this play!”
Me: So what? Sometimes football is about executing and who wants it more. Seattle overthought it and lost the game. They had plenty of time to win, but choose not too.

Going for it rather than take the chip shot field goal in a snowstorm with your backup at QB who has proven one thing, he cannot throw in weather....ranks right up there.Willmark wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 12:42 pm Single biggest blunder in pro football over the last 25ish years.

I totally get both sides of this argument. Should Seattle have run the ball instead?...Well, in retrospect, of course they should have.
But as I like to say fairly often, "You can't prove a negative". By running the ball instead, would Lynch have scored?...possibly. But we cannot say with any certainly that he would have, and why? ...Because it never happened.
