What the Raiders need.....2026
Next year the Raiders need to hire an up and coming offensive coach who has earned the opportunity to be a head coach. No more retreads or coaches who haven't worked their way up through the coaching farm. They tried hiring Ben Johnson and when that didn't succeed fell back on Pete Carroll. Hopefully we have better luck next year.
Draft a QB that can pair with the coach. No need for a retread QB unless a really great option becomes available (Stafford this year would've been great but was a pipe dream). I wouldn't mind AOC battling out the newly drafted rookie in camp.
Build the offensive line with the 2nd rd pick, through free agency, and a few we still have under contract. This is the most important step and hopefully the new coach can get a stellar O-line coach. IF Miller needs to be traded due to cap and his age I'm ok with that trade. Biggest issue is that the O-line needs to be the off season focus.
The defense also needs some help through free agency.

I'm good with that Attyla. Wrote this before coffeeAttyla wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 7:49 am The only part I have an issue with is trading down to get a stud tackle. You stay where you are and get the best tackle.

I think the Raiders have to many power players who aren't on the field. There really seems to be no structure from owner to assistant coaches. Pete not getting along with Chip. Brady and Mark having input. Meanwhile Spytek is the GM. It doesn't function well.

If any other team had an offensive line this bad they would have fired the o-line coach. But not the Raiders. Maybe they should start there but Pete won't. Hell, he won't even demote him. That's why I say Pete has to go.

If we are trading down from the #1 pick and get an offer for three firsts from a team drafting within the top 10, how do you refuse that?Attyla wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 7:49 am The only part I have an issue with is trading down to get a stud tackle. You stay where you are and get the best tackle.

well, that scenario was not presented. If we are not selecting a QB that tells me we do not have the first overall pick. My answer was to the scenario where we would be selecting Oline and he said to trade down and take the best Oline available. I merely said, if we are going to take Oline with our first pick, stand pat and take the best one period.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 9:27 am If we are trading down from the #1 pick and get an offer for three firsts from a team drafting within the top 10, how do you refuse that?
But given your scenario, how do you refuse that? In English the word is "no."

Not really sure anybody can fire anybody without Pete say so…if you know what I mean.Oaktownonly wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 9:06 am If any other team had an offensive line this bad they would have fired the o-line coach. Pete getting paid a lot of money and it all his staff that he has hired; so he can hire and fire anyone on his staff…

Thats an ambiguous answer.Attyla wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 9:36 am well, that scenario was not presented. If we are not selecting a QB that tells me we do not have the first overall pick. Your scenario says we have the top spot and are offered 3 firsts. If we have the top pick, as weak as this QB class is overall, the top guys are still worth taking, so I take one of the top 2 rated guys.

Tell Pete this, and say pound sand, our way or the highway.
Tell Pete to hire competent coaches.(in other words fire his sons)
He will not agree to either of these conditions, so fire him.
Hire a young up and coming offensive minded coach.
Keep Graham, let him run the D his way for a year without interference. He might not be up to the job, but this will keep at least a BIT of continuity going forward. We can replace him in 27 if needs must.
Sign a guard or center in free agency.
If the franchise qb is there draft him (obviously)(which might also mean 2 free agent O linemen)
If there is any doubt about the qb, trade back a bit IF POSSIBLE, either way draft a stud O tackle. Look for a qb later.
In the 2nd draft a road grading guard.
Let the rest of the draft come to us, hopefully lots of D.
Nothing I have written above is extreme or outside the realm of the possible.
It does not answer every question (WR for example), but we're not solving all our problems in one off season.
You're making too much sense. Thats not how we operate around here.

If we get a top 2 pick we aren’t trading it, not after how this season has gone.

The daily-updated mock draft database has dozens of entries. Now that we have moved into the #4 position, many very good players are will be there for us. If you click on any player in the mocks, they have a graph of how they have been rising or falling the last few months in terms of the Big Board stuff. I have seen only one that has us take a WR in the first round, the rest are QB and mostly DE.raider_kin wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 6:59 am Give Spytek full personnel authority.

Thats much better! But how will you get your qb next year? Those future 1sts are what would allow you to get your qb in a deeper draft next year if you dont finish with a top pick. The net effect of that trade would be trading this year's 1st pick for next year's 1st pick.Attyla wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:02 am Your scenario says we have the top spot and are offered 3 firsts. A lot of the time “next years draft” seems better. I’ll take the better thing now than the maybe even better thing later. We have waited long enough.
