Lets talk Dogs

I saw some posts about members talking about dogs, so I thought a thread might be in order.

Every since we had a house we had an Australian Shepherd until our last girl passed away in 2019.

After her we deemed ourselves too old to get another dog that would probably out live us.

Bichon who is just over a year old so most definitely still in the pup phase of life. Second one for us. He may outlive me but I plan on being around a while longer.

How about an older rescue. It will hurt to see them pass in a few years, but the time you give them will be magic to both you and the dog.

I have my 16 year old and a 4 year old I'm afraid will out live me. I told my youngest son, when I bought him that if me and mom are gone you have to take the little terrorist.

Our 3rd came from a strong champion line. 29 of 30 ancestors held titles with her cousin winning the Westminster Show (many years ago now). We talked about a rescue, but we didn't feel we could go through it again. Plus being retired we really don't have the resources to deal with an illness.

I can't figure out how to post a pic on here, so... I have had a Lab/Sharpe' mix... 95 lbs. A Bull Mastiff/Rot/Bloodhound mix...155lbs. owned at the same time. Both have been gone for close to 4 years. I now have an American Bulldog... Hybrid (Scott/Johnson mix) He looks all Scott, but he has the Johnson size... 125 lbs. He might be the best dog I ever had....... but I miss my Mastiff badly.

Seems all my life from the time I was born until a few months ago, I’ve always had dogs. Mixed breeds in my younger years and mostly black labs in my adult years that I trained as bird dogs for hunting. I did have an English Cream Retriever most recently. Wife and I have been empty nesters for 6 months including no dogs and it is quite the adjustment. We are hosting a wedding at our house next June and holding off on a new puppy for now. I suspect I’ll be prepping my house and yard for a new black lab puppy the day after the wedding.

3 here. All rescues. 14 year old lab mix. When she was younger she was my escape artist. Broke out of every crate I ever put her in. Can bite down and turn doorknobs to open doors. Climbed a 6 ft fence. Jumped through 2 closed windows. And been hit by a car.

13 year old staffy. She had been shot in the head twice. She's the most loving girl and would let a burglar steal whatever they wanted as long as they pet her first

3 year old no idea. Think she's part pit and part mountain cur. But not sure. Pulled her out of the middle of a busy highway when vet estimates she was 9 weeks old. Was going to find her a home. But she just ended up joining the pack

We had two greyhounds that passed away in the last few years. Both retired racers. We adopted the senior female first, then on dumb luck just looking at other Grey's ended finding her son from her first litter. She was a champion racer, him, not so much. The earliest they take them off the track if they're not good is 2 yrs old. We adopted him when he was 2 yrs and a few months. They both developed cancer, her at 13 and passed away two yrs ago, he passed after just turning 8 a year ago. Now in the meantime we fostered a few Grey's and this last one we foster failed. She's from Australia. There was already 3 things going for her. We both love black dogs, I prefer females, and her name is Louise. My late grandma's name was Louise. We love her just as much as our first two but those two will forever hold special spots in our hearts

Top is Louise, bottom is mom & son. Sun Bonnet and Michaelangelo. Milo for short. Both of her litters were named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
