They haven't said what the cause of death was. Could be anything at this point. Could even be that he tried watching the game today and couldn't make it past halftime

He ran for a career-best game of 251 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a victory over the Raiders.
Forgot about that one, it is all coming back now though. I remember that game because I thought our defense couldn't get much worse than getting shredded by a rookie munchkin, and then the next week Baltimore put up 50+ on us.

Former All-Pro NFL running back Doug Martin died after a struggle with police officers who were taking him into custody while they were investigating a break-in at a home in Oakland, police said Monday. "Prior to his death, Martin was involved in a break-in at a residence in Oakland," according to an OPD news statement. "While responding officers were attempting to detain him, a brief struggle occurred. After being taken into custody, Martin became unresponsive.
"Paramedics responded to the scene, provided medical aid, and transported Martin to a local hospital, where he later died."
No other word yet. It appears that it was not his home though.

“Doug’s parents were actively seeking medical assistance for him and had contacted local authorities for support,” the statement said. “Feeling overwhelmed and disoriented, Doug fled his home during the night and entered a neighbor’s residence two doors down, where he was taken into custody by police.”
Martin, 36, had battled mental health challenges that impacted his personal and professional life, his family said in a statement released on their behalf by Brian Murphy, Martin’s former agent.
