I'm in full agreement on principal, but we've also seen this coaching staff bench JPJ when he was clearly the best option at several positions on the OL. Devin White's performance as a starter last week is glaring if that is why we decided to bench Pratt. If I were in his shoes and saw the shenanigans they were pulling with JPJ and they tried benching me for Devin White, I think I'd ask for my release too.

We benched Johnson Powers because he was not fully healthy from everything I read. As soon as he was healthy, he started and played every snap. Concussions are tricky things

You're wrong in that he was medically cleared to play the game that he was a healthy scratch. He was absolutely more healthy than Bowers or Kelly were going into that game and they played. But I think you need to view all of the context. Mainly that JPJ was splitting reps with Cappa long before the concussion, and in Carroll's presser after that game Carroll cited what you said but punctuated it with "the competition is ongoing."

I'm unconvinced that if Cappa didn't shit his pants that game that JPJ wouldn't have remained on the bench. I'm also unconvinced that there is more to seeing the field than performance because JPJ never put out the horrendous reps that Meredith has at center. Ultimately, who knows, like I said wish we had reliable beat writers who could provide some legitimate insider info. From the outside looking in this staff looks to be playing games and purposefully putting out lesser players (To disastrous results)

100% correct. JPJ was straight up benched for Cappa and injuries had zero to do with it. And if it's true that Pratt was let go bc he was talking shit to the coaches, props to him. Bc every player should be talking shit to them right now.

I believe, and I may be mistaken, that they held him out because they said he had not had any contact or workouts for 2 weeks after the concussion. I am pretty sure once he proved he was ready he played every snap. But I also know that concussions are tricky, even after you "heal" from one they may decide to not allow any contact drills as a precaution. That may be the reason he was held out of contract drills, and actually it is likely the reason knowing the concussion protocols in place these days.

CINCINNATI — Former Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt was released by the Raiders according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Pratt signed with the Raiders in June, just two days after the Bengals moved on from the veteran.

The Raiders decided to go in a different direction according to Carroll. Pratt had 25 tackles in four games for Las Vegas. He had one tackle for loss and two passes defensed. He didn't travel to Indianapolis for the Raiders' Week 5 matchup with the Colts.

Pratt reacted to the news with a picture on X that featured the caption: "New week, same grind. But with fresh energy to win what last week couldn't."

The Bengals selected Pratt in the third round (72nd overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent six seasons in Cincinnati. He was entering the final season of a three-year, $20.25 million contract that he signed after the 2022 campaign. Pratt had a career-high 143 tackles in 2024. He was scheduled to make $5.6 million in 2025 and had a $7.9 million cap hit before the Bengals released him in June.

The Bengals knew they needed to add to their linebacker room. They signed Oren Burks in free agency and selected Demetrius Knight Jr. and Barrett Carter in the 2025 NFL Draft.

After making those decisions, it became clear that Pratt was going to be released by the Bengals.

He helped Cincinnati reach back-to-back AFC Championship Games and was a big part of the Bengals' defense for the six seasons he spent in Cincinnati, but it was clearly time to move on from the veteran.

Knight has 39 tackles and one interception in five games. Carter and Burks have combined for 33 tackles. The Bengals are younger and faster at the position. Couple that with the cap space they saved by moving on from Pratt and it was a no-brainer in June.

That decision was validated a bit more after Pratt was released just four games into his contract with the Raiders.

Other than Pratt, I haven't seen players posting negative things. I haven't seen credible journalists posting negative comments about player/coach conflict. Fans post negative things all the time. Usually they are just guessing or projecting or stirring up crap because they can. But my X posts different things than yours and maybe you are seeing things I have not.

I will add that whatever was said or happened with JPJ, he is performing at a high level. Something worked.
