Game Day Thread - Preseason Game #2: 49ers in LV Sat. @1:00 pm

The 49ers sure looked bad vs. the Broncos, and they are supposed to be much better than their poor showing last season. For us, the offensive line seems to be rising to the top of concerns.

My last few trips there I found myself spending more time and money playing golf, eating steaks, and going to shows, not gambling (I was a solid gambler, never lost big, but not enough to get anything comped), so I thought yeah, time to move on. Now I'd rather go to Carmel and Pacific Grove and drop my money. Heaven on earth there.

My brother and his wife lived in Seaside for 30 years. They both retired this year and moved to Connecticut to be closer to their grandson.

yea, dude just has to bag on posters pretty much nonstop. I am stoked over Cam, and as I have said, he needs to sit and learn and if his ceiling is anywhere near as high as I think it could be, in two years (2027) he could be our starter for years.

Flounder just has a bug up his ass over me and has admitted most around here tee him off. Being miserable is contagious, but I got the right vaccine to ward that shit off.

I haven’t been here that long in the grand scheme of things, certainly when being compared to some of you guys that have all the war stories of previous incarnations of Raider forums. Nonetheless, I can’t help but recognize what a nice oasis it is from the majority of social gatherings on the ol’ interweb. Certainly, and still, the only truly grown-up Raider site anywhere. And with journalism/writing being what it is nowadays, the personal touch brought to the posts here ‘cause the subject actually means something to them, makes it by far the best Raider read there is goin’.

There ain’t much outside of a tight inner-circle that I give two shits about, but I do recognize that I’ve got myself a wee bit of protective quality when it comes to the place. It’s a home. A Raider Home. So when I drop by “home” and it’s got some rabid mangy feral f[raiders_icon]ck that does absolutely nothing besides shit on the carpet, froth at the mouth, and snap at hands that feed, well.., I am compelled.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

The Raiders are better at the top than they were last year, the FO is light-years better than it’s been in decades, you don’t have “depth” that fits your scheme in one good draft, there are no poor bastards baggin’ groceries at Costco, and I haven’t looked more forward to what could be a 5-win season in a very long time.

But that’s also not true. There are plenty of games each season where the home crowd is 80/20, or better. You just don’t hear about those because “home team has more fans” isn’t a headline. The opposite is. It boils down to 1) the opponent, and 2) the Raiders record. I can tell you with certainty that the home opener against the Chargers will be a pro-Raiders crowd. The Titans and Jaguars will be 80/20, if not more.

The Bears, Cowboys, and Chiefs will be a different story. Cowboys in particular based on the way ticket prices are shaping up.

The truth always lies somewhere in the middle. Vegas will never be Oakland as far as homogenous home crowds. And yet, even with that home crowd advantage, the Raiders had a bottom 3 home winning record for a 2 decade span.

As others have mentioned - winning would help. But the big fanbases are always going to show up here in Vegas. Best we can do is hope that the people who are always the most upset about it decide to show up to a home game or two throughout the season and be part of the change they want to see. It would make a difference.

Doesn’t help that we seem to have some of the highest ticket prices in the league. Can’t attest how other fans feel, but for me…. Feels like I’m getting gouged to see Aiden O’Connell.

I’m sure for a lot of (other teams) fans, if you’re wanting to see an away game - Vegas is an obvious choice.

We’re probably always going to have a sort of tourist tax on our tickets and that’s fine. But when the team isn’t good… away fans are probably more willing to pay it.

Definitely the case. The Raiders dont exactly strike fear in the eyes of opposing fans. They enjoy a weekend on the strip with the benefit of knowing there’s a good chance they see a road win to boot.

It’s 100% the case with the Chiefs fans. You can see it in their demeanor as they walk around the stadium in arrogance. And the Raiders, to this point, have done nothing to prove them wrong. That needs to change!

Absolutely needs to change, but also, I don’t think the venue matters for Chief fan arrogance. They had to overcome so much just to stomach those f[raiders_icon]cking hideous McDonald uniforms that once they started winning, instant asshole.

I was down on PG early but thought he actually did a pretty good job the last couple years. Tough to make any defence look great with an offence that can’t pickup a 1st down. Even still, our D kept a lot of games closer than they should’ve been last year.

This year, you’re absolutely right. Good coverage is as much about collective chemistry as it is individual talent. You turn over your entire starting back 7…. It’s gonna be rough early. Add in that guys like Moehrig, Hobbs, Spillane were actually pretty good players and you’re gonna notice it more.

One thing the Raiders failed to do is build a dominant defensive line. Its been like

Sure DBs and LBs are nice to have but without the line, 'it all starts up front', whats the point.

We need to sign Gilmore, Douglas, or Samuel Jr. I believe our starting CB gave up 6/8 completions they were targeted on. I was there and I wasn’t impressed with the CB play. None of the guys I’m suggesting are world beaters but I think any one of them could help.
