Game Day Thread - Preseason Game #2: 49ers in LV Sat. @1:00 pm
The 49ers sure looked bad vs. the Broncos, and they are supposed to be much better than their poor showing last season. For us, the offensive line seems to be rising to the top of concerns.

My inclination going into camp has to me been verified. Raiders secondary is this teams achilles heel.
Time to trade a TE for help in the backend....and that TE is Mayer.
Love Mayer but he is a surplus.....next year he will be entering his final year...
If they are serious about winning....time to show it.

As much as I like Spilane, there were plenty of times where he was making tackles far down field. No question about his motor etc, but there's no way we were going to pay him what it got. Made no sense. Moehrig also got over paid I believe. Bennet doesn't fit what they're trying to run. Not sure why people keep bringing those players up without context. You can't rate the scheme without the right player and this was not getting all fixed in 1 year.pfish57 wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 5:08 pm Time will tell let the Patriots be your barometer after this season, do you think what we have now is better than Spillane, Hobbs, Bennett, Moehrig, Chassion, Deablo..people on here said Roberts is better than Spillane...it's laughable! Chassion out performed every DE we have except Maxx, but hey it's a New era look at my avatar;)
It's pretty easy to tell though, this team is going to be far different towards the positive, compared to years of futility. Gonna be an interesting, fun season which we can't really say for a while.

Raiders will never have a home field advantage in Vegas...DrDUne wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 5:47 pm One of the more enjoyable preseason games. Way too much red in the stadium, again! Carroll was running up and down the sidelines all game long with a smile on his face. Contagious optimism from him, and I believe it rubs off on the players.

AOC is f[raiders_icon]cking maddening. One good throw followed by a piss poor one... Cam looks great against 3rd and 4th stringers and guys who will be looking for work in a couple weeks.pfish57 wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 3:42 pm For some reason when I look at AOC I think of the Adams family???? He looks like a cross between Wednesday & Gomez lol
Forced into action against the ones he will get his ass kicked.

What they did was take the cheap route & let good players walk & replace them with inferior players, we could have kept them & still have 20 mil in cap space.raiderkoch wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 7:12 pm As much as I like Spilane, there were plenty of times where he was making tackles far down field. Possibly to be expected from a sixth round draft pick out of North Dakota State. He’s showed some nice qualities and he also showed he has much to learn. That’s the game plan with rookiesSold My Soul wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 7:19 pm AOC is fcking maddening. One good throw followed by a piss poor one... I was down on PG early but thought he actually did a pretty good job the last couple years. Tough to make any defence look great with an offence that can’t pickup a 1st down. Even still, our D kept a lot of games closer than they should’ve been last year.KillerRaider30 wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 4:25 pm In 3 years there's rarely a returning CB or Saftey.
They let Moehrig walk and traded Bennett. They released Brown, from NE i think, and have failed to draft or aquire a 3T of value and someone opposite Maxx. The Raiders have drafted 4 or 6 DTs i. n the last 3 years and how many are any good? This years drafties get a pass.
LB? Pfft
They may give up 30 a game and I dont think the offense are good enough to overcome that for more than 2-4 wins God forbid someone goes down.
This year, you’re absolutely right. Good coverage is as much about collective chemistry as it is individual talent. You turn over your entire starting back 7…. It’s gonna be rough early. Add in that guys like Moehrig, Hobbs, Spillane were actually pretty good players and you’re gonna notice it more.

In more positive news - anyone feeling like we may have landed a gem in Thornton? Geno missed him on that deep ball but he had Lenore cooked.
For a guy that’s pretty raw… I’ve been impressed with his releases off the line. Obviously doesn’t have a full route tree yet but looks like he’s got more tricks up his sleeve than was advertised.

I like this. Take whatever advantage this situation gives you, don't cry over spilled milk, figure out that advantage.Xramfan wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 6:46 pm If the opposing fans keep out numbering Raider fans in Vegas, then every game all year will feel like a home game.

What team has a lot of great depth at S? That's who's tango'ing.
But I don't know a starting S today had a pick today.
The starters are barely playing and even less playing all together.

But that’s also not true. There are plenty of games each season where the home crowd is 80/20, or better. You just don’t hear about those because “home team has more fans” isn’t a headline. The opposite is. It boils down to 1) the opponent, and 2) the Raiders record. I can tell you with certainty that the home opener against the Chargers will be a pro-Raiders crowd. The Titans and Jaguars will be 80/20, if not more.Sold My Soul wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 7:15 pm Raiders will never have a home field advantage in Vegas...
The Bears, Cowboys, and Chiefs will be a different story. Cowboys in particular based on the way ticket prices are shaping up.
The truth always lies somewhere in the middle. Vegas will never be Oakland as far as homogenous home crowds. And yet, even with that home crowd advantage, the Raiders had a bottom 3 home winning record for a 2 decade span.
As others have mentioned - winning would help. But the big fanbases are always going to show up here in Vegas. Best we can do is hope that the people who are always the most upset about it decide to show up to a home game or two throughout the season and be part of the change they want to see. It would make a difference.

You could be right. However, I doubt we’d be able to get a starting caliber DB in a trade.Sold My Soul wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 7:08 pm My inclination going into camp has to me been verified. Raiders secondary is this teams achilles heel.
