Music Trivia Thread

I have been putting this in other threads, but am afraid I am just cluttering up those threads, so I will stop doing that and just do stuff in this one. Care to join in? I am all about learning more about music. So here we go.

Here are five artists from the UK who are really well known, and they had hits on both sides of the Atlantic, but had a lot more success in the US than in their home countries. There may be more and if you know one, feel free to join in.

First, we start with Ringo Starr of the Beatles. He had a lot of success as a solo artist in the US with a number of top 40 singles, far more in the US than in the UK. Songs like Photograph did quite well in the US, but not so much over seas

Second, Sheena Easton, she did well on both sides, but had a lot more success in the US with songs like Sugar Walls

Third, the Alan Parson's Project. They did OK in the UK but had a lot of success in the US, with songs like Games People Play

Next we have Steve Winwood who was quite successful as a solo artist, but much more so in the US

And finally, we have George Harrison, another Beatle. Had a lot of success as a solo artist in the US and was also a part of the Traveling Wilbury's.

Easy one. Who was the special guest at Elton John's 1974 Happy Thanksgiving concert at MSG? I was there.

He was cruising down the highway in his Olds Toronado heading toward Illinois for to wrap up recordings for his band's 10th studio album when he heard the song in his head. It started in 1980 and with simply the licks to a song that grew while he was driving. And since this was before you could commonly just record something on your phone, he had to keep singing it to himself over and over again so he would not forget it. He floored the beast and got to the studio and without as much of a greeting, he told the bass player to play this part.....sometimes you just have to add another track to a masterpiece.

Think you know the story of the Guns and Roses song "Sweet Child of Mine?" Maybe you know part of it, but this little tidbit might have flown under the radar. Here are the parts you probably know if you followed the band. Yes, Slash did create the iconic opening licks based on a finger exercise he used to warm up. Yes, he and izzy Stradlin did work up most of the music in a basement while Axl Rose wrote the lyrics about then girlfriend Erin Everly (daughter of one of the Everly Brothers) but here is the part you may not know. When it came time to work up the song together they did not have a bridge to the tune. Axl began asking "where do we go now?" And that became the bridge to the song. And now you know the rest of the story.

The dog barking in the beginning is Annie, Perry Farrells dog that was in the studio. Completely unplanned but they kept the barking in the song because they thought it was cool.

In 1984 a world famous band were not getting along well and they had a meeting. But that did not go well and punches were thrown and one of them almost got thrown out of a window. And what caused all the ruckus? Earlier in that day the lead singer and the lead guitar player decided to have a drink at a fancy restaurant. The axe man loaned his bandmate a jacket he wore to his wedding and off they went. but it was not a couple of drinks, it was many and they were drunk even by their standards. Still drunk they went back to their hotel and the singer got on his phone and dialed up another room, saying to "Where's my drummer." Twenty minutes later, the drummer walked in past the guitar player and said, "never call me your drummer again" and punched the singer in the face sending him back onto a table with a plate of smoked salmon and he almost went out the window.

Keith said he only saved Mick from injury because it was his favorite jacket.

Coda is the ninth and final studio album, as well as the first compilation album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. It is a collection of rejected and live tracks from various sessions during the band's twelve-year career. The album was released on 26 November 1982,[1] almost two years after the group had officially disbanded following the death of drummer John Bonham. In 2015, a remastered version of the entire album with two discs of additional material was released.
