Raiders re-sign DE Maxx Crosby (3 years, $106.5 million):
A- Grade
There was some chatter that Maxx Crosby could be on the move this offseason, but the Raiders have put those rumors to rest by giving their All-Pro edge rusher a massive contract. Crosby, in the wake of this deal, will be the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
Sometimes you see very good, but not great players sign colossal deals like this. Crosby is one of those great players. In fact, it could be argued that he’s the best defender in the NFL. He’s also just 27, so he’ll be able to play the duration of this contract on an All-Pro level. The Raiders had to retain Crosby, so they must be graded highly for it. This grade, however, won’t be an “A” because it’s not any sort of bargain.

Great news. We keep our best player and we set a positive tone coming into FA.
The price seems high but will probably be eclipsed in a couple of weeks. And in Tom Delaney we have one of the best cap men in the NFL

The Steelers are also in this dilemma with Watt as well as Niners with Bosa. Raiders really set the Edge rusher market on its head and I think that was partially the plan.

Even though Maxx's extension doesn't start until 2027, there is likely a cap hit that starts this year due to a signing bonus proration. There could also have been a restructure of the existing two years of the contract that offsets that though. It's impossible to know how this impacts the cap this season until more details come out.

It's impossible to know how this impacts the cap this season until more details come out.[/quote]Now that the Raiders have rewarded Maxx and demonstrated their financial commitment to him I doubt he will have issues with restructuring his contract in the future to get the team around him if the situation arises.
